Hi all,

Can anyone possibly explain to me about the different positions baby can be in, I have seen on another thread people talking about baby being ROA, LOA, OP etc and I can't for the life of me figure out what they mean!!!

The reason I ask is that I found out today that I have an anterior placenta and I would like to find out as much as I can so I am armed with info for when the time comes that the baby's position might be an issue.

Here you go:

OP = occiput posterior
ROA = Right occiput anterior
LOA = Left occiput anterior
ROT = Right occiput transverse

( the occiput is the bone shaping the back of the skull)

So a ROA baby, would be a baby with their back against moms right side, facing moms left hip, kicks would be felt on moms left side.. a butt might be felt against moms right side of her ribs.

You want your baby anterior for birth, this way their head will fit right in to your pelvic bone.
And their spine would either be on your left, right or in the front of your belly.

yep then you got all the breech positions the list can go on forever lol x

Thanks Lilly12, just what I wanted to know.
