I have a blighted ovum and I'm around 7 weeks along. I'm opting for a d&c since my levels are still high and I haven't started mcing on my own. I want to know roughly how the procedure will be and the recovery time then when the hcg will be out of my system and when to start trying again. Thanks.

I had to go in 3 hours before where they will give you a pessary to soften your cervix and a suppository as an antibiotic and pain killer. They say to expect some cramps and bleeding once they have done this. I had what felt like period pain and a bit of spotting. When they take you down and put u under your only in for about half an hour. Unfortunately I had some bad pains and stayed in over night. But most on here say period pain and they are sent home in a few hours. I had minimal bleeding but am still spotting 11 days later. EVen though I was kept in surgery was still the best option for me. When are u having it done?

Cryssie, so sorry to hear of your loss. I had a d&c for a blighted ovum in Dec '10. From what I can remember the procedure was pretty quick and I was a bit groggy for about a day. I did spot/bleed for about 2 weeks and didn't do too much for about a week (tried not to carry my other children, housework, etc.). We were given the all clear to try again after my first cycle and we got pregnant 3 months later with my now 14 month old.

I wish you the very best with this procedure and recovery and am sure that you'll be back in first tri soon! :hugs:

I'm so sorry hon. :( I confirmed my BO with a 9.5 week u/s (my 3rd one) and my levels had already started dropping. The MC started the next week, I bled for almost 3 weeks and then bled off and on and passing tissue until 7 weeks later when I finally had the D&C on 12/21. I just had a chemical pg this last weekend. It seems to never end! The D&C should be fairly simple. I had bleeding for about a week, but no pain.

I'm assuming I'll have it done next Wednesday I'll be finding out this Friday. I had a c section with my first so the thought of "surgery" again is a lil scary. I'll be off until the following Monday if I can. Don't really wanna miss too much work.

My Dr told me to rest the day of and then slowly resume activity the next few days. It really wasn't bad at all!

Cryssie, having just had a D&C on 2/12 and comparing it to my natural mcs, I have to say the D&C was SO much easier on my body, my emotions and the rest of my family. I only had minimal spotting afterwards. No cramping and was in & out very quickly. Opting for the D&C has allowed me to move forward and not wait & wonder when its going to happen. I also did not want to experience the massive blood loss and clots I have in the past as well as passing the baby. My prayers are with you & your family during this difficult time :hugs:

Cryssie, all the best to you as you go in for your d&c and recover. I'm
Opting for natural, but wanted to share that my BFF had a pleasant D&C experience ( well as pleasant as the ordeal could be) and got pregnant after 1 cycle. That little girl is now a perfect 9 year old. She also had a second daughter aged 5. All the best.
