High Blood pressure

Hi Ladies,

Just wanted to check, have any of you had an appointment where your blood pressure was high and then it turned out to be ok?

I went for my 28 week appointment today and my blood pressure was 130/88... It’s usually around 110/70. My MW has asked to see me again next week to check it. She didn't find any protein in my urine and said that it may just be a one off, but now I am a bit worried!

130/88 is not high, especially for pregnancy, and not even that high for anyone.

Thanks hun. I think she was just more concerned as it was high for me, being that the bottom number of 70 had gone up by 18 . My last 5 readings have all been either 100/70 or I had 1 110/70 so this is quite an increase for me...

Everyone's blood pressure increases a bit later in pregnancy because our bodies are under strain. If your urine doesn't haven't any protein, and you're not having headaches, don't sweat it one bit! Worry will only elevate it! ha

yes, I had a one off, my BP is usually always around 118/78, however at 20 weeks I went in and it was 145/96 and they made me lie down, they took it several times and found no protein, they made me go back in two days later for a follow up, I was SOOO STRESSED out because my sister had pre-eclampsia ....but low and behold it was right back down and has been ever since, I had a check up on Friday and it was still low, although they have found trace amounts of protein, but my urine was concentrated...

One thing I have found is, if Im dehydrated, or havent been drinking enough fluids, my BP does go up...so Id definitely recommend you stay hydrated...

see what your secondary check-up brings, but it is normal to have the odd high bp here and there...

Thank you! I had only had a coffee in the morning when I went in as it was first thing and have been very short tempered and rushing around lately so I am hoping it is just that. My appointment next week is not until 3 so I will make sure I drink plenty of water beforehand.

Caffeine raises blood pressure so skip the coffee next time they check your bp!

In pregnancy anything over 140/90 is when they get really concerned, they will just need to monitor it's not a pattern, sadly with me it's happened again and I'm on medication now, my bp was of concern when it hit 143/95 on 2 separate tests.

hi.. if the b0ttom reading goes near 100 , and the top 140 + then thats high, also if the top reading goes below 100 that is low.. i am a nurse and if i had a patient whose reading was same as yours i would not be concerned . even if your norm is usually lower.. mine is usually 120/ 70 and stays around that, but has been 105/ 60, this is low for me but on the normal range. anyway so dont worry

Hi, the main thing is how you feel and that there is no protein in your urine. You should be ok, I had high bp and protein had to go to L&D to be monitored but thankfully all was ok on a second check. GL!
