High BMI / 'obese' and TTC

Hi, I also have irregular periods and am what u would call "BIG", but I concieved after a year of trying. I was beginning to think there was no hope and then my little angel was determined to be here! I had a normal pregancy, although the midwife who tested me for diabeties based on my weight looked determined to find somthing wrong.

I had a growth scan at 34 weeks and she was normal size and I had her naturally at 39 weeks. The best day ever.

Don't give up hope, I never and now I have my daughter, I am so happy.

By the way I am new on her on here, so HI everyone. I just thought I would reply to this as the matter that people think you can only get PG if you are thin really annoys me.

Good look in your trying honey. :)

Glad to hear this thread is offering support to others as well and not just me =)
Also very glad to see there's really quite a few lovely ladies on here who have been blessed with a little bundle of joy (or have one on their way) even though not on the 'perfect' scale people expect you to be on these days. Loving every happy post I read =D

As for me personally, I've decided to throw my life around a bit anyway. Mostly just because I want to be as healthy as possible when I do have my first born. Wanna be a happy healthy mum =) My sleeping patterns are atrocious so that will be the first thing to change, I'm also upping my fruit intake and adding some exercise to my life style. When I say that, I'm taking small steps at a time and doing things on a week by week base. Not to lose weight or get smaller, but just to feel better about myself and live a more regular life. So my 3 goals I've set myself for this week:

- Get up at 9:30, give or take 30 minutes. To most of you ladies this probably seems like a lay in, but with me not getting up until around 13:00 now (going to bed at 4:00) this is quite an early morning and big change
- Have a yoghurt/fruit smoothie each day or at least 2 pieces of fruit. At the moment my fruit intake is around 3 pieces per week, not very keen on it. Read the smoothie idea on this forum somewhere from someone else who wasn't very keen on fruit and tried it today, works perfectly!
- Do 10 minutes of stretching exercise a day. I've got a little plan set that I'm hoping to stick to for the first week. To be honest, it's 6 minutes of actual stretching and the rest is breaks and getting into position =p It sounded very easy to do some of these exercises and stay in position for 30 seconds, but I've found it hurts a lot more than I thought it would do.

Hi there,
I'm also a "bigger" girl trying to conceive so you are not alone. I've been on the Cambridge Diet for the past 4 months and have managed to lose nearly 4 stones. I am 5 foot and weigh 15st 11lbs at the moment. So I have a high BMI too. I also wouldn't want to be my recommended BMI weight as I would have to be 9st 7lbs!! no thanks. I want to be 10 or 11 at least. Still want some curves, plus my hubby wouldn't want me too thin. So hopefully by Jan/Feb I'll have reached my dream goal. Still doesn't stop me from trying for a little one though. This is the first cycle we have decided to try properly, so I'm charting my BBT on fertility friend. I suffer from PCOS as well, my periods had stopped almost completely when I was at my heaviest of 19st 7lbs. But since the weight loss, they have started being more regular, which means it'll help me to conceive by actually knowing where I am with them for once.
I reckon you should just go for it and see what happens, you never know unless you try.
Good luck

Andrea
xx

I'm a "larger" lady, I'm 5"3 and my BMI is 34.0, so I'm "obese" I'm aiming to loose about 4stone...which is going to be hard as I have no motivation or self control :( My weight doesn't seem to effect my AF so hopefully I'm all ok with the TTC aspect of being larger. I'm trying to find the guts to join BNB Biggest Losers, but I'm too scared lol

My weight doesn't affect my AF. I got my implanol out and the :witch: came 3 weeks later. I knw that a lot of other girls are waiting ages after the implanol was taken out, so my body seems to be happy just the way it is. lol

Hi ladies,
I am also a bigger lady, i am 16.5 stone and about a size 18/20.
i have onyl been trying for a couple of months and I know i'm ovulating ok so I'm just keeping it all crossed!
I do worry about being bigger while pregnant though, I hear all sorts of things about it not being good for the baby. Also i dread to think of trying to loose it after!

Personally I think that is down to how everyone makes us feel. You can have a higher risk of things in any circumstance, not just weight. I carried really well and the extra weight was not a hinderance as people tried to make out. As long as you are healthy anyway there is a good chance your PG will be fine.

Just my opinion, but I think people can be narrow-minded and it all goes back to the same thing that people think u can only get PG if u are thin. There are risks no matter what the size.

Sorry for rammbling but it gets me riled up! *SOBS*

By the way good luck trying!

I think getting pregnant got something to do with the state of your mind. If you're happy and you take this whole TTC thing not too seriously and don't over obsess with it, it will happen.

Hi ladies,
you are totally right, I tihnk we just get obsessed with what other people think!
My trouble is that I look 6 months pregnant already cos of my big fat tummy! Just wish it was actually true!

To all those living in the UK...

I went shopping in asda today, and they have started to do a plus size range in size 18-28, and there was some nice stuff, and reasonably priced, so thats great news for us 'big' girls!

hi your stats look same as mine bar im shorter than you (my bmi is 42) and im now 14 weeks pregnant. dont give up hun you can do it. :) hugs

I am almost 38 and a size 24 and also TTC for the first time....been off the pill since August 2012, and on chlomihexal for 2nd month now...I'm on a healthy eating program and doing my walk-away-the-pounds every second day...HOPING for some good news SOON...:baby:....but until then...trying to stay positive and trying my best @ loosing some weight...

Im TTC'ing and i weigh 19 stone at 169cm on my 2nd cycle now, so no matter your weight you can still try :D

I'm 22, my BMI is 39. Been trying to conceive since September 2011.

My cycles are all over the place which they have since my daughter was born, so now going to try OPK to determine ovulation.

Hi hun, im classed as obese im a UK dress size 18-20 but im small in height only around 5ft 1inch so it really shows on me. I have never been the type of person that has been able to fall pregnant easily. I fell pregnant quite quickly with my first DS it only took me 3 months but I was alot smaller then. When it came to TTC our second baby I was at the heaviest I had ever been. After 2 and half long frustrating and very upsetting years I decided to see my doctor. She was very blunt with me and said that I was far too over weight and as a result my body had spontaniously stopped ovulating. She said she would refer me to a fertility specialist but it was around a 6 month wait to see him so told me to go and loose weight whilst waiting for my appointment coming through. I went to a local slimming group (Weight watchers) and lost just over 2 stones. A few days before my appointment I had actually found out I was pregnant with twins so I didn't need to see the fertility specialist after all. Unfortunately, at almost 17 weeks in to the pregnancy my boys died. It then took a further 11 month to conceieve my DD. Im now on my 4th cycle of trying for baby number 3 but I gained all the weight back which I lost before so I am concerned it will take a long time to get there again. Sorry for the long post x

Oh the only difference is back then when we where ttc my periods where very irregular. Now they are like clock work every 28 days so I suppose I have that on my side. I am 15 stone now but I plan on trying to loose a little weight while TTC. I'm glad you made this thread so thank you! :)

I'm about 290 lbs which is almost 100 lbs heavier than when I got pregnant with my son 2 years ago. Just went off the pill so I know it will be a while.

Mama2Connor - I'm the same, im 5.2 and weight about 15.8 Stone. I was about 2 stone lighter when i fell pregnant with my Daughter (who is 3 in a few weeks). I've only managed to use about 10lbs but i piled it back on during winter. My cycles are all over the place anywhere from 35 to 60 days, most average at 46 day's though. My fertility doctor is the same, she is strict and won't help unless i get my BMI to 30ish, which would be about 10st for me. So i have a long way to go unless i can get pregnant on my own.

Oohhh, talking about an old thread revived. Happy to see it's still helping people though =D

I'm still 'obese', though down to 17 stone now.
I've since starting this thread 5 years ago had 2 gorgeous and healthy girls, and completely uncomplicated pregnancies and labours! (even a home birth ;))

First girl was conceived with the help of metformin to get me ovulating as it just wasn't happening on it's own.

Second girl was conceived, once again with the help of metformin. Big difference though... as I DID ovulate on my own this time. I actually fell pregnant between my 2 girls, but had a miscarriage (without metformin). My midwife recommended sticking me back on it after that, just to help my body carry... which seems to have worked.

Sooo ... don't give up ladies! It can definitely be done.
Not trying, not preventing now. I haven't started ovulating again yet, but think that's more to do with the fact I'm breastfeeding. I didn't get my periods back until a year after labour with my first, imagine it will be the same this time around.

i lost 50 pounds and am on my 3rd cycle TTC.. Its nice to find somewhere with people who are like me.
