Holiday question- Australia.

I have family over in Australia- we haven't seen them in a good 4/5 years.

Anyway- I speak to my cousins on Skype all the time and they have invited us over for a few weeks over Christmas.

Just wondering if its a good idea...Aden will be 17 months and the new baby will be 5 months. Plus I will be studying for January exams (that isnt really a problem though as I know I will still revise)

Would appreciate opinions. :flower:

Personally I wouldn't take a 18 month old on a long plane journey. They've not long learned how to walk and they just want to explore at that age. I imagine the plane journey would be a nightmare.

He is walking now (bit wobbly though!) and is already in the i-need-to-explore-everything stage. I didn't think of that.

I might suggest they come over here instead.

I would try and get a night flight out to Singapore and hope he sleeps, try and break up the travel with a few days there and then continue on to Aus.

I went to Australia with a 4yr old and 2yr old twins.

Was absolutely fine, people appear to have a fear of flying with children but if you're confident in your child's behaviour than why not go?

We kept their routine on the journey with some slight alteration as we we're obviously travelling through time zones.

Kept them occupied with things to do and they were fine, i now wouldn't hesitate taking my daughter on holiday at any age, to any destination.

Theres quite a big difference between the maturity and understanding of a 18m old and children over 2 though.

I went when I was 18 on my own to see a friend out there in Queensland-there was a mum in front of me on the flight who had a sky cot for her 6 month old baby and she had a 3 year old-she was travelling on her own, her husband worked on an oil rig somewhere out there and she had family in Darwin. I only did the bit from London to Singapore with her, I was reading her little boy stories :) we had a night flight left 9pm ish.

One of my friends has just taken her 9 month old to new zealand for 5 weeks-she used the rest of her maternity leave :) they stopped off in san Francisco for 2 nights to break the journey, but they had no problems. Had a fab time, saw whales.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I had an amazing time when i went, would love to take LO there, we just cant afford it.

xxx
