Has anyone experienced the honeymoon period with a newborn?

My LO had been really good for the first 11 days but today she has been really grotty, cried properly for the first time, wont go to sleep and is just generally moody. When the health visitor came today we told her all of this and she said we were coming out of the honeymoon period. Today has drained me and for the first time since she wa born I don't think I can cope.

My husband has been brilliant with her and really supportive but I honestly don't know how I will cope when he's back at work on Monday :(

We did. The first week was basically just eating, sleeping and pooping. Then she started to be awake slightly more and she didn't go to sleep on her own and I didn't know babies should only be awake for a little while so I didn't help her go to sleep and she became an absolute monster! Then I started putting her to sleep after an hour of being up (1.5-2 hours now she's a bit older) and that really seemed to help.

She's been awake for about 3 hours in one go today she would sleep if she was in my arms but as soon as I put her down she would cry.

She was awake every hour last night too so I'm already shattered. Finally she's gone to sleep after 120mls of expressed breast milk which is 30ml more than she usually has per feed, she only had 90ml an hour before so in the space of an hour and half she had 210ml of ebm :O maybe she's having a growth spurt? X

The wanting to be held is normal! I held Sophie for ages when she was your LO's age. It's just what babies want. I could only put her down when she was in a real deep sleep :). I think there's a growth spurt around 10 days, so that's all normal!
Just enjoy the cuddles because soon enough she'll be wanting to sit up and look around and do other things than being snuggled by you! Maybe invest in a sling or wrap so she'll sleep on you while you can do things? If babies stay up too long they get overtired and really hard to settle and stay asleep. As soon as I figured that out things got much better. It's still a struggle with Sophie as she hates naps, but if I don't put her to sleep (sometimes she cries quite bad for 5 to 10 minutes) she becomes an absolute monster. Now she always wakes up with a smile and we have 1.5 hours of happy time in between naps!

i never got the "honeymoon" period with chloe, the first 4 weeks were a nightmare, she wouldnt sleep, didnt feed well, wouldnt sleep in her moses basket she ended up sleeping in her bouncy chair, she didnt cry as such just fussed 24hrs a day, then at 7 weeks it was like having a different baby!!...she slept through the night, went into a cot, and was just a joy....fast forward to 7 months and now the honeymoon is over!!!...shes waking through night, and gets fussy with her bottles but i know this can be short lived, your baby will go through different phases at different times, just try and take comfort from the fact that things will settle down and in a few weeks you can begin to establish a wee routine, i lived by my routine for 3 weeks to get chloe sleeping through the night and when it was established i was able to be a bit more flexible depending on her mood...good luck and enjoy those cuddles xx
