Hi Ladies,

I have been lurking here for the last few weeks and am not sure if I am even supposed to post so I apologize if I'm not but I think you wonderful ladies will be able to provide more insight for me.

I am 31 Dh is 34 we have been ttc since July08, but stopped preventing in April08. With my short cycles (average 25 days) it has been 14 cycles of "trying" (OPKs, some cycles with preseed, legs in the air, you name it) and no BFP. I have scheduled my first doctor's appt for Monday - he knows we're ttc and suggested we make an appt to start the ball rolling to my DH so I bit the bullet.

I am really nervous and afraid TBH of what I am going to find out on this journey but am so desperate for a little one I am putting on a brave face.

I was hoping to get some info on what to expect - what the first steps are, what type of info I should be bringing etc. I am not bringing DH to this appointment. I want to discuss things with my doc first - then we can go together. Is that a bad idea? DH isn't handling the whole ttc thing very well (gets very upset when witch shows) and I want to get a handle on things before I bring him in.

Any advice or words of wisdom are welcome.

Hugs and babydust.

Hi hun, i would take ur charts (if uve been charting) and write down as much info re ur cycles u can think of.

My dr ran SA, bloods for, cd21, cd3, rubella, hiv, hep, u name it they tested. Also swabs for chlamydia e.t.c. Then i saw the FS nurse and they checked my tubes with a hystersalpinogram. Then i saw the FS and discussed a plan of action.

Hope that helps a little, good luck. XXX

So when I went in to talk to my obgyn about TTC with meds - she put me on clomid right away. Later, I learned that I should have done some blood tests (e.g. fsh levels, estradiol, etc.) and an HSG (blowing out the tubes and hurts a bit). I felt extremely blind-sided by the process b/c my doctor didn't explain anything and looking back she didn't know anything either. Also, I didn't know that u/s were intravaginal (not just on top of your stomach).
Also, just keep an open mind. I went in thinking I would never, ever do IVF and that was super unnatural - and a week ago I did my first cycle of IVF.
Good luck to you and I hope your experience goes well. Good job asking for advice going into this mess too - you dont want to be blind-sided like I was - it was an awful and even more traumatic experience b/c of it.

Think Daisy has said it all. Good luck at the docs!

i agree with the other :)...make a list of questions you want to ask as well !

Yup I agree with the other ladies!!

Best of luck with your first appointment! xxx

Thanks for asking this question, I am one month ahead of you as hubby and I stopped preventing in march and started trying in May and still no BFP. Never been preggo in the past and I have started to process to fertility treatment and finding out why it hasnt happened. Good luck to you and I hope we both get out BFP soon

I would take ANY info you have. About your AF's: heavy, light, how many days. Your husband's height and weight and any probs he has had with his, um, you know...boy stuff. I would take charting or which days you had a + OPK. Which days you DTD. I would gather info such as when you first started your menstrual cycle, and family info on your side.

You will hopefully be offered blood work, and maybe an HSG. Perhaps Clomid. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Thanks for the info ladies....and Miel and Daisyduke - congrats again on your BFPs! You give me hope. I was so happy to see your BFPs ladies....you have no idea.

I am going to bring a list of questions for my doc....he is my new family doc but so far so good. When I told him we were trying he tested me for everything....took like 12 vials of blood from me. All came back ok.

I had abnormal cells on my cervix in the past and had a biopsy (not sure if this can affect fertility) but have had fine paps for the past 2 years so no longer seeing a specialist.

I am not charting - I was afraid I would become crazy obsessed (it happened anyway) LOL. But maybe I will start that in the next cycle.

Thanks again ladies.....your words of encouragement and wisdom go a long way.

I hope we all get our BFPs soon!

hugs and babydust.
