Well I had an awful day yesterday, which ended happily in the end.
I got up to take my husband to work and was back home by about 9 am. I took a bath and decided to get into bed for ten minutes or so. Well, of course, I fell asleep a little while later. I had felt my baby moving during the morning before my two hour cat nap!!
I was woken by the postman knocking on the door at about 12:30 and made myself some lunch, which I ate and then came back upstairs for a while. I was watching TV and trying to feel baby wriggling - which he wasn't. I tried laying in different positions, drinking a cold drink and even had a bowl of ice-cream which normally drives him mad - but all to no avail. I didn't really know what to think so I got myself properly dressed and did a few jobs thinking this would wake him up, but still felt nothing. I rang my husband at work and he said to try the hospital and see what they said. By this time it was about 4 pm. As soon as I heard the midwife's voice, I fell apart! I could tell her what was going on between my tears and she told me to come straight down and they would monitor me for a while. My husband was on his way home from work, but it's a good half hour drive from where he works to our home, and then about 20 minutes to the hospital, so I called my mum and she came down and took me. I felt calmer and thought I might have felt a shuffle in the car on the way, but all I could think of was the worst case scenario.
As soon as I got to the hospital, they hooked me up to a monitor and his heartbeat was loud and clear. My husband arrived a few minutes later (must've driven like Lewis Hamilton) and we just all sat listening to baby's heartbeat and I was trying to feel him move. The monitor seemed to suggest that he was moving as his heartrate was going up to about 165 every now and then, but I honestly couldn't feel it! After about an hour and several different positions the midwife said she was perfectly happy with the results from the monitoring and it could be that baby was just in an awkward position. She encouraged me to go home and call back in a couple of hours to update her.
Within about 5 minutes of being in the car on the way home, I could feel him. We stopped at the chip shop for tea and I got a huge kick in the side - I felt so relieved. When we got home I was sat on the couch and his movements just seemed to be completely normal. I called the hospital back to tell them and they were really lovely and said if I felt at all worried to go back without even thinking about it.
I felt a bit silly but I am much happier today. I didn't sleep much last night as I was aware of wanting to feel him moving through the night, which I did. I have been busy cleaning today and he has been wriggling round as per usual, so I am much happier today.
But man, I was scared yesterday . . .
