FML Trying to get a house and it's mad I sware £400 deposit for partly furnished i.e. no sofa, table,chairs, beds

Like WTF the only to lett house in the whole town and it has FA in it and they want a huge lump sum to start with !!!!!

Its poo aint it. I think our deposit all together was about a grand, and ours wasnt furnished at all. We had to buy everything ourselves on top of that

ours was completely unfurnished and our deposit was 1400, deposit is usually a months rent or a month and a half regardless of furnished/unfurnished

Omfg its so not right although my sil gave me a website where the deposit + rent is £500 n they accept housing benifit.
Dsslondond.com is the site, basically once u've found a place u like say u like it but dont have as much as there asking so whats the lowest theyd take, my sil looked at 5 different places n they told her 500 each time she asked.

It sh*t aint it! our deposit was 400 + 250 for a flipping credit check and then it turns out we had to pay 6mnth rent upfront anyways! Luckily my dad said he would help us out and we just pay him back month by month. we would be homeless if it weren't for him..xx

400 is really low, ours was over a grand for unfurnished.

One thing though, make sure you get given the details of the protection scheme where your deposit is held. All deposits now have to be protected by law. It stops landlords from nicking it with bullshit excuses at the end of tenancies. (*******s!!)

We had a credit check too, *******s, me and my OH earn around 90k us per yr between and we still had to have a credit check. Unreal. AND, I check my creedit record online every month, they didnt even do a bloody credit check!

I dont like landlords, can you tell? lol

I'm not sure how much 400 pounds is in American dollars, but if its anywhere near $400 that is low for a down payment.

We are renting from a private owner, a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom trailer, that was completely empty, (but we had all our furniture already from the last place), and luckily we didn't have to pay a down payment, or get a credit check or anything. We just have them $400 for the first months rent and moved in.

Lots of people pay $1000+ for a deposit on a place that isn't furnished at all. I think its very rare that a place is already pre-furnished.

If you're on IS/JSA you can claim a community care grant. I got about £500ish when I moved.
Also if you are becoming homeless, some councils have rent deposit schemes, where they lend you the money to pay the deposit and you pay it back to them weekly/monthly.

My house is unfurnished. We paid £1500 deposit plus a months rent which was £700. That's just what things cost. Sucks I know
