Ok so as some of you may already know me n bubs can't stay where i am due to ss and child protection not wanting oh's mum having anyform of input with a child as hers where taken into care about 5-6 years ago.
For the past 3 months me n oh have been trying to find our own place, we've tried everything execpt private renting which is looking to be our only option, but theres no way we're guna be able to afford to furnish a flat aswell as get the months rent n deposit.
I've been told i can apply for a community care grant to funish the flat with as they give you the money for things like a bed, sofa but i've heard so many people get fobbed off with them cos they hardly ever give you the money for: Fridge, freezer, cooker, there reason is that you don't actually need them you can survive on pot noodles n cup-a-soups till you've saved the money, yet you can get a t.v, sounds system, and god knows what else if you say you have anxiaty (sp) issues and you rarely leave the house.

arhhh i have no idea what to do, i've been up n down the council for the past 3 months n have another app with them on weds to talk about private renting.

Does anyone have any experiance applying for a cc grant?

Hey I got a CCG in May when I moved. In total I got about £580 I think but can't remember exactly.
They rarely pay out for a fridge/freezer because you can buy fresh and not need them.
I've never known anyone to be rejected for a cooker. They pay for a brand new fitted cooker(usually go buy Argos cheapest price) so that you don't buy second hand and it F***s up fast and they have to pay out again.

If you want, PM me and I'll dig out the paperwork and let you know how much I was given for eash item.

my mums had about 3 of them i think for loads of reason i no on one of them she got the full amount which i think is about 1500 cause we had a flood and lost every she put we needed bed curtians bedding litterally everything so if you put down you have aboustly nuffink and put it into alot of detail you should get quite a good amount hope that helps a lil bit x

i was in a similar situation this year...OH threw me and my 3 kids onto the street with no-where to go...ended up using the rent deposit scheme to get rented accomodation but didnt have a stick of furniture for it...applied for the grant and got nothing!!..i went through the furniture project in my area and they gave me the basics...beds for me and kids, drawers for clothes, 3 piece sofa, unit thingy for a tv to sit on, table and chairs and kitchen stuff plates, cutlery etc etc, i have to say i really appreciated it, i also had really good friends help me out...i did manage to get a budgeting loan of £800 but i have to pay that back but it really helped more for the kids sake...hope things work out for you :hugs:

Not sure if these are available in the UK...

Freecycle.org
and craigslist.com

I have found so much stuff for next to nothing on craigslist. I recently got a new stove for $50 in like new shape. There were others for even less.

do you have an instant neighbour scheme in your area? they can give you 2nd hand sofas, fridge freezers, cookers, tv etc...

you wont get turned down for a cooker or carpets when you have kids i was told when i applied coz you have to feed them then keep them warm. as for the fridge - tell them you cannot breastfeed for health reasons and you need it for the baby's feeds.
