ok so its not the easiest name 'Xanthia' but she wont say it, i know she can say it because if i say to her 'say Xanthia' she will, but if im pointing at people she will say everyones names ie.. mummy, lizzy, auntie Jenny, uncle bob, granny, grandad, fran etcetc but when i get to her she says 'me' :dohh:

well shes not wrong but when people ask her name she says 'me' too!

why did i pick a hard name?? :haha:

i do correct her & say 'yes your Xanthia' but shes just not getting it.

With Snowy (which is obviously easier to say than Xanthia lol) she says 'nee!' (for me) and I go 'yes thats you! That's Snowy. Can you say Snowy?' and she's juuuust starting to point to herself and say Snowy :p

My lo is around the same age as your lo. He calls himself "you ". Iv tried explaining and correctibg him but no luck. On the odd occasion he has attempted his name its come out "Dinner" which isnt toooo far off Dillan.

So i have no advice but we are in a similar situation.

I don't think it's about the pronunciation - lots of kids refer to themselves as "me" for a long time. Others use their names from the beginning and don't say "me" or "mine" for ages. Depends on the kiddo!

my son calls himself michael and now says everything like 'michaels car' maichaels toys' etc,. but if i ask him what his name is he tells me 'name'! lol

For a while my son would say "that one" and point to himself if I asked! :haha:

We started saying what's your name? Its jack. Then asking him the question and he started saying jack. We did it with his brother s name then moved onto his age and where he lives all of which he can now do.

I would just keep doing what you are doing. She will click one day. If anyone asks Paige her name, she says 'Paige Murphy'... never just her first name. I dont need everyone knowing her full name!

if i ask the twins what is their name they will say their full names (including middle names) they have done this since starting pre-school lol

before that i would always try to associate the word 'name' with their names so they understood that when someone said name they would know to associate it with their actual name. eventually clicked.

at first i did try the whole point to myself and say mummy point to child and say their name but they got confused and started calling themselves mummy when pointing at themselves and then calling me their name whilst pointing at me. they learn by copying so eventually she will just start copying you and call herself by her name. x

thanks girls, glad shes not the only one. lol

ahh well she will get there eventually! lol xx
