I've just replied to a lady asking about when their LO will go in the cot..

my reply was:

''I'm thinking of using the moses basket just for downstairs and day sleeps and when peanut is due their feed around mine & OH bedtime we'd just feed upstairs and put them in the cot.''

My parents are buying the cot for us and we said from the beginning we won't need it till peanuts about 6 month so don't worrying about ordering it now and OH was like we won't need it till 6 months etc..

But after reading a few threads regarding moses baskets and ages etc a few of you ladies have said after around 5 months you feel the frame wasn't safe enough due to LO wriggling etc and we babysat OH niece whos 4 months and nephew whos 2 and she only stopped in it for the night but I could hear the stand moving around and she's not a big baby so made me think about looking into what you ladies do.

Then I though about keeping the moses basket downstairs mainly because I'm not the strongest woman and we've got deep stairs so I'm worried if one night I'm on my own due to OH working late or out etc Peanut will fall out because of the angle I've got to take them up on or they'll wake up with the noise and movement also after their downstairs feed e.g 7pm or whatever time before me and OH go to bed it gives me and OH us time without worrying about waking Peanut with the lights, telly etc on..

how do I mention to OH that the cots going to be put up before peanut is here? Without thinking its pointless??

Most people do it tbh, we plan to have the cot up and put the baby in the cot to sleep but in the moses basket - that way baby gets used to cot, bedroom and sleeping without hearing OH snore, I would think thats a good enough reason :)

We are getting a crib instead of a moses basket. I don't have any stairs and we wouldn't really need 2 beds if OH wasn't working at night. I am thinking i can have LO with me in the front room in the crib during the day, it will save me going to the bedroom to get LO and hopefully OH will manage to get a bit of sleep. I thought about Moses basket but i got told it is until 3 months and some of my friends' babies didn't even want to go in it at all.

mt daugher grew out of her moses basket at 6 weeks, she went into the cot, in her own room and started sleeping through, she was not disturbed by tv, hubby snoring etc and i found it easier to put her to bed at 7pm, then feed her again at 11pm and that was her till 5.30am, i would never have attempted it if she was still in the basket in our room, so worked out for the best in the end.

just say you have been reading up and might be an idea to get the cot eariler to get baby used to it, if you have the room, assemble it in your room first then you can put baby to sleep in the moses basket inside the cot to begin with.

just a note, i had a stand both upstairs and down for the moses basket, but i was never able to carry it properly (after c-section) so i stopped using it downstairs and used the carrycot of the pram for a while, i didn't like just carrying the handles as i was always scared they would break, now 3 1/2 years later we're using the same basket and i will do the same again once hubby goes back to work.

Just to add to that-the handles aren't meant to be used to carry it when baby is inside-only when theyre not-have been instances of babies falling out!

With dd1 we kept Moses basket downstairs after first fortnight and she went in her cotbed after 2 weeks fine.

Hope you get sorted!

I would just let him know that you've read into it a bit and would feel more comfortable doing it the new way!

We'll have our crib set up way before baby is here. I'm not completely sure how I'll do it once he does arrive. I'll probably set the pack and play right up next to my bed for the first couple of weeks for night time and put him in the crib for day naps. And then after a couple weeks transition to the crib the whole time. We'll see what works though.

Thanks Ladies :)

I've 'won' the battle ;)!!!

He's come to his senses and thought do whatever because 2bh thoughout the day he'll be at work and only see Peanut for about 3 hours before night feed at 7/8 so he can have his time and do the bedtime etc and then put then in their cot in our room :)..
