this may sound like a slily question but was just wondering how do u count rolls and pushes??
my little girl hardly ever kicks anymore she does the odd one but not that often it is mainly rolls and pushes which i no is pefectly normal.. but as we all no little one should move at least 10 times a day..i dont no about the rest of u but when my little girl is one the move she'll just roll and push arouind for a good 5 minutes and its constant they all just roll into one movment!!!

so how would i count my 10 movments as its hard to identify one movement from all the moving she does???

sorry for the ramble any advice will be lovely thak u xxxx

I have thought the exact same, I can have movements that go on for ages but are basically the same starting movement .. not explained that well lol. Hope someone can answer. :hugs:

Its not actually 10 movements but 10 seperate periods of movements. However most mws say not to count 10, if your baby has a pattern then go by that.

Was told 10 patterns of movements per day.

But I go by his pattern at certain times mostly x x

As RileysMummy said its 10 sets of movements, so say your babys is kicking for 10 minutes then thats 1 movement, if you have a minute between each movement its still one movement, but say twenty minutes apart its 2. Thats how I understand it to work. Now your babs is bigger she isnt going to be able to kick like she used to so you probably wont really feel proper kicks much.

I think these days they reckon you shouldnt count, its more about your babies pattern, but mine doesn't even have a pattern, he just moves when he wants to move, and he's quiet when he wants to be quiet...so while I feel like I want to monitor him to be sure everything is ok, I find it really difficult because he is so unpredictable.

I havent tried counting yet, but I might give it a go just out of interest...well if I can remember!

This is how I was told to count them as well. But to be honest I don't bother now, I just look out for the usual pattern of movement.

Hmm I'm confused now. I've been monitored cos of low movements - every DR and MW I have spoken to has said to count the individual movements, not as group. I don't think I would get 10 groups a day as my LO can keep moving for up to an hour at a time so how would I split this?

I've just been going by my baby's pattern-he/she is active first thing in the morning and when I have breakfast and then again when I get in from work. I don't feel anything during the day really as I'm so busy rushing around. My MW said that knowing your LO's pattern is more important than counting exact numbers and it was an alteration in this pattern which made me go to the hospital on Friday-back to normal now though!

My consultant has not told me to count the movements, just that if i feel baby has gone quiet to lay on my side have a cold drink and you would expect some movement within the hour.

2bh i dont think you can... my baby moves constantly!! and like you he rolls and pushes and its just a constant wiggle... i find it better to go more by how strong and wiggly he gets rather then how often if hes movements suddenly got weak and less then id worry... but he seems to go all day and night so i havnt had any worries with it x

This is exactly the reason I stopped counting and went for pattern instead. Mine can go on for an hour too, so if I felt I wasn't getting this as much thats when I would start to worry.
