im finding such hard work to entertain max all day, he just gets bored of everything after about 2 minutes! and then he just winges... not propper crying straight away its more from his throat like a moaning sound, which if noone goes to him or plays with him within a few seconds, he starts crying propperly. it seems that the only thing that keeps him happy for a little longer is holding him up so he can stand and then he just wrigles and kicks to try and stand on his own.. which of course he cant! im hating everyday at the moment coz i know trying to keep him happy is going to be such a battle! is this normal?? does he have baby-adhd or something?!?! any ideas would be appreciated as im losing the will to live! :brat:

also we cant afford expensive things like a jumparoo (plus i cant get one down here so would have to end up paying about £150 to get one from uk) but he does have lots of toys that he plays with (but only for a few minutes at a time)

These are some things I do to try and keep Harrison entertained (he's 5 months in 2 weeks time)

We've got him a door bouncer (£15 Asda) and he spends half hour bouncing and going round in circles in that.

He watches half an hour of CBeebies so I can get some housework done

I lay him on the floor and play with him and his toys

We go for a long walk in his pram

He has 3 half hour naps plus having bottles and nappy changes takes up some time

He goes in his swing and bouncy chair alot, I put lots of toys on his lap and he plays with them with some childrens music in the background

If im out pegging out washing he comes out with me in his bumbo as he loves being outside

When I have access to our car we go to the supermarket - hes always quiet in his buggy

xx

thanks for the ideas, does your LO stay quiet while he does those things?!

some of the things you have mentioned i do try, like putting him on the rug and playing with him and his toys, but he winges then too as he tries to crawl but he cant and gets frustrated, weve got a door bouncer although i always forget about it tbh so ive just put him in that and he seems to be quiet at the mo!, i take him outside on the patio in his walker while i do the washing but that only keeps him occupied for about 15 mins but at least i can get the washing out lol

i sometimes go out with him to the supermarket but its so hot here at the moment i hate putting him in the car to get there.

uit just seems that ive exhausted all the things to do by lunchtime!

thanks x

im the same as u. my little angel is terrible she plays with things then start moaning and growning after a short while.
i tend to get diff toys out each day try mix it up abit. we play songs and dance. watch abit of kids tv.
then play with toys or sit her in her swing bumbo so i can have 5 mins brake to eat or drink lol.

its hard work but plenty of toys and rattles and stuff to entertain your baby 2 keep things fun and fresh do help xx.

oh and we dont have a jumperoo either we couldnt aford one at the time and for what they r we decided it wasnt worth the money. u can get things that r just as good for far cheeper if u look around xx

Yea he stays pretty quiet!! Another thing that makes him go silent is when I start dancing like a loon in front of him!! lol. Harrison gets frustrated on his playmat too because he rolls onto his front and tries to crawl but cant, but I turn him back onto his back and distract him with toys. It is difficult though, my OH doesn't get in til 6.30pm and we're up at 8am so thats nearly 12 hours of occupying a teething LO :(
xx

oh gosh that's the best time ever!!! I have jumperoo out, she loves it. I also put her on the blanket on the floor so she can roll around that makes her super happy, play gym, we read books (which she tries to eat), we sing, play peekaboo, sometimes we just roll around in bed and give each other kisses :)

seriously?! ok i think i have a devil child. :(

Lmao at the baby adhd comment

My lo is EXACTLY the same at the moment and we can't afford expensive toys either. It's like they want you to entertain them constantly and not move away. He doesn't even sit on his rocker anymore because he brings himself forward to get up (as if he could!) and then sqeals to get out! If I lay him down in his cot and put the mobile on, he gets bored after about 2 minutes, and as soon as you pick him up, he's fine again

I ended up putting him in his walker, propped up properly with small cusions so he doesn't bang his nose. He loved it and it lasted a good 10 minutes lol!

i dont mean it horribley but im glad im not alone!

We're the same too! I'm finding it exhausting at the moment trying to entertain Amy. She gets bored very quickly. Even in the pram now she will start to whinge. Hopefully this is just a phase they go through at 5 months * fingers crossed *

Well my lo has a jumperoo and he's stil bored after like 10 mins lol so don't worry!! I feel like a court jester trying to entertain the king all day long sometimes hehe xx

Harriet has a walker we decided not the get a jumperoo as the max weight is 25lb and she was 17lb a few weeks ago. She is in the walker for anything from an hour to two hours a day (not all at the same time) she has now worked out how to walk from the front room to the kitchen and down the hallway into the other door into the front room this keeps her occupied for ages and i sometimes chase her around.

He has her bumbo but is not 2 keen so i have this setup in front of her baby gym which is ment for babies who can sit up and this keeps her happy.

She watches CBeebies (any combination of show me show me, chugington, in the night garden, driver dan, 3rd and bird, waybuloo, zingzillas and just the start of get squiggling ( i know odd child))

she has some quite time each day where we just sit quetly and read a book or chat (ok i chat she listens)

We also have dress up time where i show her a range of clothes and she tells me by kicking what she wants to wear.

I think it all depends on what your baby likes :)

Someone on here recommended something sort of similar to a jumperoo to me a little while ago. I have a jumperoo but i wanted something smaller for at my mums, maybe you could save for something like this, or hint for it as a christmas present from a family member! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fisher-Price-Playzone-Take-Along-Activity-Centre/dp/B0002VZ2IW
Other than that its just a constant swap and change of all LO's toys while hes on his playmat or playing games like peek a boo or making silly noises and faces while LO is sitting on my lap. He loves things that make a noise if he kicks/bashes them so i got him a little piano thing and a gym that hangs over his head which makes silly noises if he kicks or hits certain things. He also loves kicking plastic bags (only if im supervising, of course!). And watching the fish in the tank! I also view bath time as play time cos he gets super happy if hes in there, haha. And ive just added Baby TV to my virgin thing which im hoping will give him another half hours worth of being entertained a day, haha. Oh and we usually have one or two walks a day in the buggy so he can look around at whats going on in the world.
Even now i find it hard just to get enough time to do all the house work without having to entertain Damien, but i would much rather spend my time making him laugh so i dont mind!

thanks for all your replies, i was beggining to think it was just max that was like this as all my friends kids just sit there watching you and seems quite content to do nothing all day! ill try some of the things you have suggested! :) thanks!

Have you got any type of carrier? We have a baby bjorn and lo loves facing out and having a nosy! I wear him round the house just to give my arms a break!

When Minipose sees his clothes before getting dressed he takes them off me and starts eating them :haha:

I think it is a difficult age, he there is loads of stuff he wants to do (walk, crawl) that he can't yet which is very frustrating to him. He also wants to be sitting up all the time but not in anything with straps as he doesn't like to be restrained. Since he can only sit unsupported for about a minute before tipping over that doesn't really work out so well.

The best thing I have found at the moment is swim class, he is in the water for 20 minutes and is then so tired he sleeps for most of the afternoon!
