Hi, just wondered how everyone else with babies around 9 months old organise their food and milk? I think I'm right in saying they should be having about 20oz per day, but I seem to be forcing milk into her when she's not wanting it!

At the moment it is as follows:

7am - wake up - 7oz milk (very rarely finishes it, use the rest on her cereal)
8am - breakfast
11am - 4oz milk
12:30-1pm - lunch
2:30pm - 4oz milk
5:00pm - dinner
6:30pm - bedtime - 7oz milk (starting to only drink a few oz of this now)

I see others are giving their babies snacks too but I wouldn't know when to fit those in. I was thinking maybe I should be giving a snack rather than milk during the day, but then would she be getting what she needs?

Thanks ladies.. :flower:

So, she is getting 7oz breakfast (bottle or cereal) and around another 15oz a day - thats fine! I think its really only if she goes under 18oz thats when to try rearrange things.

Is she eating yoghurts or cheese - that counts as milk too.

I make Anna's meals thick so that I can put milk in it too as she is not taking much either!

Snacks - if I am putting on a washing or doing the dishes or something I put Anna in her high-chair and put some nibbles on her tray.

I think your routine is good (very similar to ours!) so I wouldnt worry but I certainly wouldnt replace milk with snacks.:flower:

i think its as long as they have 18oz its fine. my lo has 7 oz when waking and if she doesnt drink it all has it on her cereal, snack at 10am, lunch and tea she either has a yogurt (small one counts as 2 oz) or finger sizes piece of cheese (also counts as 2 oz) then 4oz bottle mid afternoon and 70z before bed.

we dropped the 3pm bottle at 9 months sand replaced with a snack

Omar takes only 3 bottles with 3 meals. He doesnt usually have snacks. I give him some cheerios when he's playing but he always plays with them rather than eating them. Sometimes I give him some fruit or baby custard when he's playing, but not everyday. He was taking around 15 oz, but last night & tonight he drained his 7 oz bottle & took additional 2 oz. He never had 9 oz before.

Thanks, that sounds like quite a good plan, although she's not that keen on yoghurts! She has cheese though.

The last two nights she has only wanted about 2oz at bedtime which I've found quite strange so only had about 17oz each day. I think if I drop the mid-morning 'snack' bottle, she won't get so full and give her cheesy snacks instead!

It was fine when she was drinking all the bottles, but she's started not wanting her bedtime one (only takes 1 or 2oz) so only taking about 16-17oz per day. Like others have said though I didn't really take cheese into account so she may be ok.

Without trying to sound thick... Is it just the calcium that we're trying to get into them?? or is it another reason that it should be milk?

I think it's the calcium.

DD has only just started having snacks, really - and she has her morning snack with a BF!

I think your routine sounds a-ok!

Our routine is:

6:30 (ish) BF
7:00 breakfast - very frequently porridge made with about 150ml whole milk
10:00 (ish) BF and snack
12:30 (ish) -lunch, will include yoghurt and/or cheese most of the time
15:00 snack
17:15 - dinner, again will include yoghurt/cheese/cream/custart/fromage frais
19:00 - BF

well my lo is nearly 12months

between 02:30 - 04:30 - 5-8oz milk
08:00 - Breakfast Porridge with whole milk
09:30/10:00ish - Either 4oz milk or snack
12:00 - Lunch with cheese or yoghurt
14:00 - Snack
17:00 - Tea
20:00 - 4-7oz milk

So not having as much milk but he is on higher nutritional and high calorie milk so having more of the nutriment but less milk

Our routine is pretty much identical to yours! Emma tends to drink a bit more for her mid afternoon bottle, but is starting to lose interest in her mid morning one so I may drop that soon and replace it with a snack.
