Ro doesn't like his hair being washed as he's scared of the water going into his ears or eyes, but he'll tolerate it now as DH kneels next to the bath and lies him in his arms with his head over the bath, where I use the shower to wash his hair. It works fine as all LO has to do is lie fairly still in DH's arms. But he's getting too heavy for DH now. We tried getting him to stand and lean over the bath with with head down with either him or DH putting a hand shielding his eyes, but he just stands up as soon as I wet his hair. How do you wash you too-big-to-hold toddler's hair?

I use one of those toddler shampoo rinse cup things that has a rubber edge that goes along their forehead to keep water from running into the face. He tolerates that MUCH better than just rinsing it out and water running into his eyes. And I just do it as quickly as I can. I tell him I will be quick, close his eyes, tip his head back, and rinse as fast as I can. Then I tell him he's done, and he can play now. Seems to work ok for my lo. He used to HATE getting his hair washed, but he seems to accept it now as long as I'm quick about it.

I just get the kids to lie down on their back in the bath. We use a gentle shampoo when we do use it, once a week or so, so it's not the end of the world if it's not all completely rinsed out. I've never noticed any greasiness or anything anyway. If their hair isn't completely under the water I just use a cup to pour it over while they're lying down - they don't notice/care.

I'm just really quick about it and I ask him to hold a face cloth over his eyes to catch the water. He doesn't like it very much but it's over very quickly as his hair is short and rinses easily. My DS also loves having the hand shower rinse him after his bath so I think I might start using that as a mini shower alternative to the bath!

We use it too. she still hates it but it goes quicker like that.

I just get Paige to look up whilst i quickly pour a jug of water on her hair a few times. When she was younger, she didnt really 'get it' and it used to go on her face too lol... but now it only takes a minute.

I get DS to lie back in the water and "be a mermaid", and just rinse the shampoo out that way, He hates having water pured over his hair.

Get in with him...play, splash, teach him to blow bubbles. Get him to get his face splashed with fun games like. 'Wheels on the bus' splashing the water around.remind him water doesn't hurt his eyes....soap does. Teach him to rinse his eyes in water. Get a little pour cup and let him pour water on his hair. Make it fun and always smile and let him know its okay. Put him in swim classes. I used to teach swimming and this is a big hurdle for some kids, but if you teach them from day 1 water is okay on eyes (which it is) then that fear is usually less, or non existent. I poured water over my kids head at 1 day old.

He's not scared of water, loves his baths and enjoys swimming - my sister's a swimming teacher so I hear plenty about that! He just won't stay leant forward for his hairwash, and then shampoo would get in his eyes (and it isn't a baby shampoo either so will bloody hurt).

Unfortunately he has a medicated shampoo as his eczema is particularly bad on his scalp, so it does really need to be washed out fully, but having him lie down on his back is a good idea. I could then drain the water and rinse the last bits with a cup... Hmmm... Will test it out! Thanks!

DD cries but I just do it anyway. It has to be done and tbh I only wash her hair once or twice a week anyway, it's a very brief moment in her week.

we use a head shield to wash Alex's hair and now we have no problems with his refusing to have it washed
