How far do you have to travel to give birth?

I would be really interested to know how far you live from your hospital/birth centre.

We live five minutes drive from the hospital so it’s never been an issue. However my midwife has recommended we visit a birth centre which looks amazing but is 40 minutes drive away. Probably a lot more if we had to try and get there in rush hour.

I am very keen on the birth centre but this feels like a big leap to me. Especially as if I needed to transfer to the hospital for any reason it would mean travelling the 40 minutes back to the original hospital.

We’re going to visit them tomorrow and discuss the logistics but I would love to know what the ‘average’ distance is people travel to give birth.

We are about 30 minutes on a good run, but if baby comes during rush hour then he'll be coming on the 'A40 towards Oxford', becuase we'll be buggered trying to get through!

I live about 10 mins drive from the hospital, I initially wanted to use my hospital's birth centre but I changed my mind incase any complications arose.

I live 20 minutes from my hospital straight run on the motorway
Thank god :)

We are about 35 mins away from the main hospital, longer if traffics bad. And about 45 from the birth centre.
I'm hoping for a home birth tho!

15 minutes from the midwife-led unit, about 45 minutes (40 miles) from the hospital though...

Im 10 minutes walk from my hospital and birth centre, they are next to each other :)

I live about 15 minutes away, but we have just had funderworld the travelling theme park set up for the next 16 days which gridlocks all the roads leading to the hospital, so we have to take a much longer detour. I am hoping that baby doesnt decide to come on the 17th cos most of the roads in the town i live are closed for a bike ride!

We're about 5 minutes away from the hospital, and they have a birthing centre there, so either way its a short trip. Haven't decided if I'm going to give birth in the labour ward or birthing centre, right now the mw doesn't see a problem with me going for the birthing centre, but says we'll discuss it at my week 34 appointment. They no longer do tours which is a shame cos would have liked to have seen what the rooms are like.

if it's clear of traffic and tractors then it's about 35 minutes on country roads.
we are almost exactly halfway between the two hospitals in the area - pretty much the same distance to each.

i think our hospital is about 15miles... take around 30 mins to get there give or take. depends on the weather too because i live in the country

I'm 5 minutes from my local birth center and 30 minutes away from our hospital

10 mins from my hospital. If I HATE that hospital when I go and look around it our next closest ones are about 40mins away.

40 mins drive to the nearest hospital!!eeck im very scared of not making it as i almost didnt with my last 1!n also have to drop my boys off with my mum who lives 10 mins away n she sleeps like a rino lol.x.

I'm 5 minutes from the hospital with the birthing centre attached. I'm hoping for the birth centre though.

we're about 25 minutes away but on a busy route so baby has to come at the right time :winkwink: also most of the frigging roads are closed in september so i think we're screwed anyway! x

20 mins from hospital and birthing centre, but it could take anything up to an hour in really bad traffic. My worst nightmare is that Junior will be born on the Bristol ring road... I'm even considering a home birth in an attempt to avoid it!

The hospital i'm delivering at is about 30 minutes away, but if I go into labor around rush hour, we're in trouble :dohh:
