how is 2.7 MILLION swimmers "dismal?" can someone explain science to me?

thank you!!!

yes, we were told that anything under 10 million post-wash makes it unlikely to conceive.. so weird!

I'm no expert at all but I wonder whether it is because in a 'natural' cycle only the very strongest and fastest (morphology & motility) make it to the uterus and then towards the egg, but in IUI *all* the sperm artificially reach the uterus including ones which wouldn't necessarily be healthy enough to progress further. IVF makes the chance of conceiving much easier as the sperm only have to travel across the petri dish and ICSI even takes that obstacle away!

I wish you every luck with your cycle - you are right to remain positive as it really does only take one! :)

Hi,

I saw this post and wanted to let you know my situation. So my hubby and I already have a 17 month old little girl and we decided to TTC #2 in January 2013. I was really concerned that something was wrong with me because I had a rough pregnancy and then I had a very rough labour and delivery. So, I told my hubby that we should see a fertility specialist right away and not even wait. So, the dr did a whole bunch of tests on me and my hubby did a semen analysis.

Well, apparently, I'm as fertile as a 20 year old but my hubby's SA came back really bad. After they washed it, he had 400,000 sperm. The dr said that it was really bad and wanted to do another SA. So, the next one came back at 600,000. The dr said that anything below 20 million is low but with what my husband has, there is slim to no chance of conceiveing naturally.

I was devasted and knew that we'd have to start with IVF in the next few months.

Well, low and behold, I just got my BFP on Wednesday. It was all natural too, no IUI, no IVF, nothing.

It only took us 3 months to get pregnant and we only DTD twice this cycle. Once the day before my +OPK and then the day of my +OPK.

So, imagine my husband is practically sterile but it only took one little swimmer to get to the egg.

DO NOT GIVE UP HOPE!!!! It happened to me and it will happen to you!! :hugs:

So anxious! Congrats. We have been ttc since last summer. My partners total count is less than 2 million. I am a day late officially my cycle is usually 25-26 days and I'm at day 27. Trying not to get my hope up too much a few years ago I was 4 days late when I am usually spot on. And I know the doctors said it isn't probable without IVF. Thank you for giving me hope that it will happen one day. Right now I'm just trying to keep the witch away. Planning to test tomorrow.

so_anxious~!! i almost teared up hearing that! thanks so much for sharing that with me!! i'm so happy for you!!! p.s. i have been trying for a year but i am nowhere near the point of being sad/sorry for myself when others conceive!! i LOVE to hear stories!! especially ones that give me hope!!!!

35andttc2 GOOD LUCK and fingers crossed for you!! that sounds promising. keep us posted on here if you think of it!!

DH had some blood tests and it was determined by the urologist he should try clomid. he started that this week and i've read of some great results with that! i think we'll make it.. i'm feeling positive even though i don't think this is the month.. i'll know in a week. :)

i think this makes a lot of sense, and i tend to agree.. a lot of the ones that are put there, even if they are post-wash, most of them still probably wouldn't have made it to my uterus on their own.

thanks so much.

This sounds interesting. I can't seem to find the GSR video in my country (uk). Could someone please kindly share a link?

We've had no luck with 14mil but motility is only 15% total. Hubby always stressing over everything.
Waiting to ovulate on 8th cycle. No obvious signs and hubby seems bored of bd already.

Skookie I hope you keep us posted when you test. I see by your ticker only a few more days to go.

hey ladies! Dear old AF came like always right at 13 DPO (right as it ticked over to midnight, actually). I need to figure out how to update my stinking ticker.. i think i need to just make a new one because i didn't save my password for the ticker building site. :-/

Anyways, i'm not surprised at all, and I get relieved in a way whenever AF starts (physically/emotionally speaking) so don't feel too bad for me. I will try to update again if/when I ever get my BFP and what the circumstances were as far as count, etc... i always tell myself that i'll go back to my old threads and update, just in case someone finds one of them via google.:) I hate finding threads via google and not knowing whatever happened to the person..

thanks a bunch for all your input and i wish us all the best in our babymaking and baby-having endeavors!!

have you done IUI or just trying natural still? luckily we did all of our fertility testing after about 9 cycles of BFN..found out we had male factor issues last month and now he's getting treated (seeing a urologist and on clomid which is supposed to work!). i'm interested to see if the count will go up the next cycle and then the next.. our motility is decent.. only real issue is the low count.. the clomid kinda messes with your system (male or female).. he's a trooper!

and yeah, i've found that sex is the most exciting thing in the world for guys until it becomes an obligation.. at that point, interestingly enough, it seems some of them could take it or leave it. DH and I have both had good and bad months in that regard..just trying to forge through..

Awww sorry the witch showed her ugly face :gun:
Hoping next cycle or next iui is a success for you :hugs:.

I know it's so unfair but it's such a journey for the sperm to make it all the way up there, very little make it, it's crazy!
