as the title says how long after waters breaking do you actually go into labour? ive been having dreams lately that my waters have broken but being a ftm im not exactly sure what happens afterwards? do i wait until my contractions get regular and shortened in frequency? or go straight to the hospital for delivery, ive heard from friends that the mw checks and sends you back home until you are sufficiently dilated and have contractions more in a minute.......

anyone like to share their experience?
im 36+4 now, so technically i stil have a few more weeks to my due date but i know that labour could start any day now.....

Your waters dont always go before contractions, or at all infact, some times they have to be broken for you once you're already in labour.

My waters went at 40+6 went in the hospital, and wasnt getting any contractions, so was sent home and told to come back the following morning if nothing else happened, that morning i'd got a few little pains, but was still unsure if they were actually contactions, and when I returned to the hospital, i was asked if i'd like to go home again or to be induced, and seen as i was so desperate to meet him, i wanted to stay there and be induced!

rign the hospital up if you think they gone because they after induce within 48 hours of waters going if they have, people dont always get contractions

I thought she meant she was just thinking about the event of her waters breaking, didnt think they'd actually gone?

I dreamt last night that I was in hospital and my waters broke just before I felt the need to push - these are some scary dreams!!!

its a very hollywood scenario, in most cases your waters dont go until your in labour. I know of one person who's waters went before hand. infact i know of a few women whos babies were born in their waters.

Anyway, if they do go ... like everything else its quite individual, usually fairly soon after, a hour or so, enough time to pack your back up and take a shower before they start and most wards wont see you until labour is more established, although, if you waters do go before hand i think your more minitiored as they cant check for myconoium, but i might be wrong, mine went when i was nearly 7 cms.

Yeah, the ladies are right...My water broke when I was 38 weeks, had not even dilated yet and it was gushing all over my legs but my son didn't arrive until the next day so even if they did break, you may have time before you actually feel the baby coming...But every women is different...

my sisters waters broke and he was born a hour later
so i suggest if they break go in just incase
goodluck when it happens:thumbup:
