This is our 12th cycle ttc.

I am 37 & thought after 6 months we would have some sort of tests !

We saw the doctor after 6 months & were told they were not interested untill we have been trying for 2 years - I will be allmost 39 then :-(

We did have a chemical in may - would this stop anything moving forward as we have had a BFP ?
My OH has ED & its costing us a fortune in viagra ! Lol
He can manage some of the time but to make sure we cover our bases we use at my fertile times :-)

Any advice on how to push for tests ? X

I don't think it matters that you had a chemical, I know here in Canada over 35 and six months trying with no viable pregnancy starts testing, one year if under 35. My advice if they won't start testing is see a new doctor if possible!

wow i'm surprised they told you to wait two years before tests ! is there another doctor that you can see ? they started running tests for me after 12 months and i was 27 at the time

My doc started testing me after 12 month when I was 22. According to NHS guidelines, if you are trying for six months over the age of 35 then you qualify for testing.

Try a different doctor if that is possible. You have a right to know what is going on with you.

Normally it's a year - I am going to be honest I lied about how long we had been trying, I am glad I did as I would never of found out I have PCOS.

Hi Jo
Have a look at the NICE guidelines here- they recommend testing after a year

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that anyone over 35 should be tested after 6 months as fertility funding for IVF is only available for women up to 39. I think you should go back to your doc and if that doesn't work try a different doc- we have a variety of GPS at our surgery and some are more helpful than others so I don't know if you have the same option?
Good luck x

Hey i live in UK and i'm 37 next month and i went to go and see my family doctor on Friday and she has referred me for tests. I have 4 boys already but because i've had 4 MC's since December 2010 i'm getting referred now. Because your over 35 you should be seen after 6 months, but i did think the norm was 1 year and not 2  Can you go and see another doctor in your practice and explain your situation and your concerns? I went to 4 different doctors before my referral. :hugs:

thats so unfair, you need to complain, I had to wait one year I was 31 at the time. Its not fair to leave you waiting until you are too old to be helped... you need to complain asap about this DR.

Do you have irregular cycles, very heavy or painful periods, or anything like that? I got blood tests pretty quickly because my cycles didn't return after coming off bcp.

Also....I ended up getting some tests done privately thru health insurance offered as a staff benefit by my work. Do you have anything like that? I'd never thought of looking into it until someone at work who knows we're ttc suggested it.

Other than that I would change the doctor you see and keep on at your GP. Might be worth monitoring your cycle with temping or OPKs so you know when you ovulate. Not only will it help you time sex better (and save a fortune on viagra!) but it might give you more evidence for your doctor.
