Just wondered as travel systems are supposed to be used up until a child is three or whenever (I know you don't have to use them this long but they're designed to be able to suit a newborn then a toddler) but whenever I see parents with kids over the age of one they always seem to just be in a stroller and a lot of people I know ditched the travel system once their child became old enough for the single-purpose light-weight pushchair/buggy things.

How long did you use your travel system for? xx

My Lo is just about grown out of the carseat now from the travel system at 5 months, so we got the next level up carseat.

But even though she is too big for the carseat part of it, I strap her in it when we go shopping because there is no other way to get her in the shopping cart unless the carseat is on it.

A travel system is just an infant car seat stuck on top of a stroller. The stroller can be used until you're done using a stroller. The infant car seat can be used on top until the seat is outgrown. That depends on the seat. Avery has a Snugride 35 which can be used until 32 inches and/or 35 pounds. That would keep most kids until a minimum of a year.

Unless she was asleep or it was a quick errand, I always took her out of the carseat and put her into the stroller (reclining or not depending on age). It's not good for their back/neck and breathing to be in the carseat for too many hours in a row. I still use the carseat in the car, but never use it as a carrier/travel system any longer.

By 'travel system' I also mean the stroller that the pram converts to.. they're usually a lot heavier and bigger than the one-purpose strollers you buy. xx

Sorry, in the US all they are is a stroller/carseat combo type thing. A true lying flat baby buggy would be nice, but there are extremely expensive items in the US because they are all imported. The stroller in the US travel system is a larger stroller that lies fairly flat.

I was thinking this I've got a travel system and most people I know ditch the whole thing to a lightweight model after 6months or when the car seat is too small! When I ask people why they say becuase of the bulkiness of the whole pram is hardwork and a trip to town etc is harder and harder as their LO grew up plus shopping to carry!
Glad mine is secondhand and not wasted loads of money on a new one I can see only being used till June/july!

With DS1 I used the Travel System (M&P Ultima) until he was about 7/8 months before switching to a lighterweight pushchair.

With DS2, I have a P&T Sport Double which I leave in the car because of the weight & I bought Quinny Zapp Xtra which can be used as a travel system. I think I'll be using the QZX for quite some time as it's really lightweight.

My car seat is too small, looking to buy new one this week. I am still usng the carrycot part, and will shortly start using the pushchair part

i'm still using mine... i have a m&p pliko pramette and stopped using it as a pram a few weeks ago as lo hates being in it awake! i love the pushchair part though as lo looks so comfy in it and when popping to shops for an hour or two love the fact i can just clip his car seat on! have to say though i Will be looming to get a stroller next year but Will be mainly for holidays and weekends away as pushchair takes up alot of room in boot esp in my corsa!

Hi I stopped using mine at five months as she was just too big for it. I got a lightweight stroller and find it's much easier when out and about xx

I stopped using mine as my everyday pram when LO was about 3 months. I got a mamas and papas pramette which lies flat and then converts to a stroller when they are bigger.
The travel system was just too big and heavy for me and I didn't like LO been in the car seat when he didn't have to be. I only use it now if I'm getting the train to my mums and she is giving me' a lift home.

I never ever used the car seat in it, we were advised not to by the nurses. It stayed in the car. We used the cot part til about 6 months and then didnt really use it after.

I'm still using mine, i used the carrycot til 5 and a half months and now using the seat unit but it is a pain as its so bulky and heavy to push so i dread to think what it will be like to push when he is a toddler. I want to use it as long as possible as i like him being RF but around 18 months it will have to be a stroller until he is walking long distances.

I have the m n p ultima, i also have a sola which is a bit lighter and i will use in the summer months but cant beat the ultima for the snug and cosyness factor! (i only got the sola as didnt think the ultima would fit in the new car boot but it does so the sola is a bit redundent!)
