How long do you have to take folic acid for?

Hi ladies, with my first baby I took folic acid up till 12 weeks
My midwife said to take folic acid till 14 weeks? I have just had my 12 week scan and everything looks good so far. Was just wondering xxxx

I am taking pregnycare original which has the recommended amount of folic acid in it. They are throughout pregnancy tablets so am thinking I will just take it all the way through. Is this OK? X

My doctor gave me 90 days worth and told me to take them at least through the whole first trimester so I will do that and then probably take a regular pregnancy multi vitamin.

It's most important to take folic acid through the first trimester, and after if should be okay to stop. But usually, at least with all the vitamins I've seen, it's included in the prenatal vitamins. And prenatal vitamins are recommended throughout pregnancy and beyond.
