Hi
I just wondered how long it takes for a baby to like a food. I'm weaning in the traditional way. We started on baby porridge and baby rice, which she loves. I tried to introduce pureed carrotts but they are not going down too well. I don't know if it's the texture or taste. She just sits with it in her mouth and makes funny noises, but not crying. Is this normal. Should I keep trying her with it.

Do you have any good first purees that are definite winners?

Thanks

Hi hun. Omar hated all baby food. Other than some fruit pots, he wasnt keen on puree. He used to spit out all veggie puree or gag & throw up. Once we started introducing real food with more flavor at 6.5 mnths he took it all with no problems. If she doesnt like one veggie u can try introducing sth else. Once u find what she likes, u can start mixing veggies. I used to add fruits to veggies sometimes xx

ETA: Omar hated carrots, coliflower & potato puree. He liked pumpkins, butternut squash & sweet potatoes. Now he eats cooked carrots & potatoes with no problems xx

Carrots are quite a strong flavour (think how they can make a stew taste funny if there's too many). Maybe try mixing in baby rice to 'water' it down to a less strong version (what I did with Earl).

As for liking a food, I've only ever found 1 food that Earl spat out and that was maltesers when he stole one from me once. He's since become more partial to the odd bit of chocolate, but he still prefers fruit or biscuits! lol.

Keep trying, try a variety and don't make a fuss if something new comes onto the plate. Earl will literally eat anything, mainly because anything is edible! lol

First purees that Earl loved - Butternut squash and Pear, 3 Root Veg (Carrot, Parsnip and Potato/Swede), Cauliflower and brocolli, Sweet Potato and Carrot.

Carmen has only refused to eat one thing, and it was spag bol I lovingly created for her. Carefully nutritionally balanced with all-organic ingredients, and she didn't like it... sigh...lol! I think it was the orzo she didn't like, but now she's been eating rice so she's used to lumps. Everything else she's tried, she liked right away! I hope it stays that way but that's probably wishful thinking..

Thanks, I tried sweet potato and she loved it. I'm going to mix the carrots up with some other veggies.
I'm loving weaning. She gets so excited when it's something she likes.

The Annabel Karmel book I have says it can take 15 tries of a food for a baby to decide if they like/dislike it!!!!!!! It's worth leaving it for a few days and trying again. I wonder if this means I'd like celery if I ate it a few more times!
