how long past due date should i test??

well the title says it all im 4 days past my due date (sorry i dont no the short for it lol!!) and i dont have a lot of money atm so i dont want to waste on cheap tests then wonder if my bfn is because it cant detect it or pay for an expensive one and then come on the next day like last time haaa
