How long should our cervix be?

I had a cervical measurement scan Monday as I'd been cramping a lot, it was 33.9 and my dr gave a thumbs and said it was all "really cool". Today I've had a pain in my vagina and it got me thinking how long is our cervix meant to be? I'm 20 weeks. x

it differs from woman to woman your doctor will have been looking at more than length he would have been looking to see it was firmly closed or closed enough not to warrent a stitch

I wouldnt even go near my cervix - am assuming you are not thinking of trying to measure yourself??

I have never had it measured/not that I know off! I wouldnt even know what it looks/feels like.

Anyway! You are experiencing pain so I would say call your doctor.

I had mine measured last week as part of a pre-term labour study my hospital is doing (was also offered it in my last pregnancy). I was especially keen to have it done because I had a LEEP procedure some years ago, which removed a piece of cervix. I was fine both times, can't remember what the measurement was 2 years ago, but last week it was 34mm and tightly closed with no funnelling, and the sonographer was very pleased, low risk for pre-term labour on that count.

If the doc says there's nothing to worry about, you have to believe that. However if you're in pain, maybe you should go back? It's normal to have pains up there in pregnancy, though, I have had some that feel like I'm being stabbed with a hot skewer. They don't worry me now but they did last pregnancy, I was a wreck.

Thanks ladies. The sonographer and the dr seemed pleased with it. I know all these pains are normal, I'm a high risk pregnancy with a high risk of preterm labour/ late miscarriage and was told I'd never have kids so I must admit I get very paranoid easily with every twinge. Thanks for the reassurance . Hope u all and all your little ones are well x
