I was just wondering how many of you think it matters how many presents their kids have ?? I have seen a few post where people have said their kids have this many presents. I never count the presents I get the boys, I just buy what I think they might like  I dont set myself a number and say I want to get them this many gifts. Plus how many think it matters how much money you spend on your kids ?? I dont really spend a huge amount of money at christmas, last year Dan did get a huge (well huge to me ) amount spent on him but that was because he NEEDED a laptop so he got it as a christmas present. (I should say Dan is getting quite a bit this year but most of that is a holiday we are paying for, and we can spread the cost out until June, plus it is a French speaking holiday so it is for educational purposes:flower: )

I am just curious and I am by no means saying it is wrong for anyone to count their kids presents or to spend as much money as they want :flower:

i dont set myself a target (they will have xyz presents), i just get what they would like or have asked for. BUT i do try and make sure all 3 have about the same number of presents.

take this year, both older 2 asked for some more dressing up outfits, so i talked to them and said i could get 2 new each for about £20 OR i could go on ebay and get them 4 or 5 each that wernt new for the same price - they both asked for more.

This is the problem I have, I try to make sure they have the same amount of presents but it isnt easy :nope: At the moment I would say Dec has maybe 10-12 presents and Dan only 2 but the 2 Dan has cost 4 times as much as the 10-12 Dec has, so I could justify going and buying Dan another 10 presents  He will get a few little pieces, aftershave and smellies but nowhere near 10. This is one of the down sides of having a big age gap between your kids :dohh:

I don't count the amount of presents, really don't feel the needs to

TBH I have nearly finished my christmas shopping (as you know) and I have forgotten some of the things I have bought :dohh: (need to go check lol)

as for the amount of money you spend, my kids only even get things I have the money for, i'm not gonna put myself in debt just so my kids can have loads of presents :flower:

can you top up with stuff they need - pants/socks etc, not fun things but can be essential.

as my eldest will be 8 at xxmas, he understands that somethings cost more than otehrs and therefore the amount of gifts may be different etc. give or take £20 they have had the same amount of money spent on them.

I haven't counted! couldn't be assed

I will admit though, I opted out of getting her a DSi as her main as the cost of it for how small the box was, so I opted 3 big things for the same price that can be assembled for the same price (boots 3 for 2) so there for LOOK better :dohh: I'm stupid but as my Mum said, my house is getting more cramped by the day and Christmas isn't about taking pictures and comparing presents with your net friends

If I had two I would get the same amount for each as my mum did with me and my sister but that's about it x

But its not that easy when there is a 10 year age gap !!! I have a toddler and a teenager how can I make sure they get the same ?? I mean Dan just got a £300 bike does that mean I HAVE to spend £300 on Dec ?? Dec has about 10+ pressies and Dan has 2 which will go up to about 7-8 by christmas. I am very lucky I have a very understanding teenager  I do feel bad Dec gets more pressie than Dan but Dan is getting a trip to paris which includes a stay at Euro Disney so I know he understands

Yeah I was about to come on and say it might be different with a different age gap. As we were so close (20 months) we pretty much always wanted the same main present

If your kids are ok with it I don't see a problem tbh x

i only have Moo but i dont think the amount or cost is important
my OH comes from a family of 5 (oldest is 30 youngest is 16) so a 14 year age gap and MIL never bothered with amount of gifts she just said its the same value as all of the other persons gifts

I dont think it matters how many presents or how much people spend, I will cut right down next year because as Lilly gets older I dont want her to expect alot and I think the only reason she woud ever be disapointed with what she got is if she had lots one year and hardly anything the year after. xx

i try and get the kids the same amount of presents but holly is now of an age where she knows hers cost more so she isnt going to think the others have had more

dec and dan will be the same babes am sure dan knows his cost more :flower:

but they do get the same amount of money spent on them give or take £20

ohhhh i have got dec his xmas present but im not telling you what it is

What size does SamSam take in Next ?? I am just going to get him clothes cuss they get so much toys they don't know weather they are coming or going :nope: so I thought clothes would be better

I spend roughly the same on each of them (all bar £20), with roughly the same amount of presents, this is easy for me though cos there is only 4 years between the oldest and the youngest, with another in the middle, and also none of them have asked for anything in particular apart from Morgan wants a back scratcher.

Amanda and Jayden are in a competitive stage right now and when one gets something the other says, "what do I get?"

Jayden would notice if Amanda got more gifts at Christmas so I have for years made sure they had equal gifts.

However, it will have to change at one point as they decide they want a particular gift that is expensive, etc.

Over the years I have set a budget on how much to spend on each one, yet have gone over. :dohh: This year I will be abiding by that much I set though.

I'd set a budget for the same for each; but obviously Dan's stuff is going to be much dearer than Dec's so he'll have less. I'm sure he'll understand it's quality not quantity:thumbup:

I have too , as with the two of them if one has more the other gets upset.

AS leanne said , Carly is so competitive and if she has more she will go on at ella saying so , if ella has more she will whine that she hasnt got the same!

So if everything is even i feel its fair and Carly wont get upset with Ella. Ella wouldnt care , infact i dont even care , i buy them things i think they would like , but if one has a few more then the other they would deffenitly notice. My mum done the same too , i guess its just to keep it fair why people count there pressies if they have more then 1 child.

Also with the money thing, theres a few like myself that buy very early on even as early as march and thatll add up throughout the year till x-mas. Ive spent loads but i havent noticed it as i started so early with the odd spare bit of money, iether that or some are just mega rich

So yup im guilty for this

I don't count but maybe I will. What do we count as a present anyway? Do we include books and stocking fillers etc?

Oh and I set a budget, spent it and then the sainsburys sale came and i spent more :dohh: I'm a sucker for a bargain although to my defense 99% of stuff I bought was on sale or I got for cheap.
