We havent counted but we set a budget.

But I worry that now we have reached the budget it doesn't look like a lot :haha: so just keep picking up random bits.

No wonder Im skint  x

I never say stockings fillers are present iykwim

The toys santa leaves are their presents, the stuff I buy like the stocking fillers, books, bathsets, p'js, slippers and other little bits and bobs there not proper presents to me :)

Morgan wants a back scratcher.

Firstly,  Hehe a back scratcher?? :haha:

When we were growing up, my Mum always made sure we had the exact same NUMBER of presents and that she spent no more than £20 more on one than the other. It always worked out well - we did sometimes count and make sure we had the same number  We have a four year age gap.

Sometimes we swapped presents if we didn't like something someone had gotten us.. says a lot for my mental maturity at age 10 doesn't it, swapping presents with a six year old

Right now, we don't have a budget and I haven't counted what we've bought so far. I only have a few more bits to get for Tegan and then I'm done. I always spent the same amount on other people as they spend on me though - we're spending £40 on our niece because my sister does on Tigs, £20 on Nana and sister/BIL because that's what they spend, etc etc.

I don't count but maybe I will. What do we count as a present anyway? Do we include books and stocking fillers etc?

I class stockings as presents :) As there Ds games , perfumes , makeup , books etc. I wrap them up just like presents so class them as them i guess! Just smaller items :)

I dont have a budget, as Ill only stress myself out if I go over it! but I do/will count their presents to make sure they have the same amount, although Brooke's wrapped gifts might be different sized ones to Berties-but as long as they're equal in numbers then im happy.

oh, and I count anything wrapped as a gift.

ok im going up and il count larger stocking filler gifts (ie not sweets!)

BRB! lol

I dont count the number of presents we get the kids BUT i have had to explain to nicole that she wont be getting as much as she usually does this year, her main present is a laptop. I always get them one main present and lots of little ones, the boys are getting one main present between them this year.

Sabby52 Ive the exact same problem, there's 9 years between my son and my daughter, last year she looked like she'd millions though they didn't cost a fraction of what my son had. This year will be the same lo's will look like they have loads and he hasn't any. He's going on a school trip to the Ghaeltacht, its £500 before any other money he needs, hes after and ipad, there's another £500 and a phone at £150, they look like nothing he'll be getting more but the actually size of a phone and ipad is tiny plus the school trip isn't something I can wrap up, he's looking some games at £50 a pop they look like nothing wrapped up, I don't know what to do, I think he needs more actual presents to open, OH said he's older and understands but I just dont want him thinking the lo's get so much more than him.

Amelie has 46 presents for christmas  They range from 90p-£20. I've spent £235 and still need to get her a new pair of PJs, some matey bubble bath and some sweets.

For her birthday in Jan I've got her 12 presents and spent £120 but will spend a good £100-150 for clothes in the sales.

I've went overboard again  I feel guilty now.

Blah why do you feel guilty? We all spend to our means hun, I'm sure Amelie will be very happy! x

cos I set myself a limit and I've went way over it :dohh: A 2 year old doesn't need that many presents but I cant help it! It's an actual problem

this is where we differ - in my house santa leaves the stockings and all gifts are from us. so i dont count stockings as presents. LOL!

 We have a similar problem, but I've not set a budget this year because of that exact problem :haha:

My mum always spent the same on us, but I think thats because me and my sister are close in age, If theres a big age gap then I would buy what was suitable for both without worrying about price or counting presents xx

I don't really set a target or an amount, I buy whatever I think she might like. When I have more than one though I'll probably have to be more careful with making sure they get the same amount etc.

I list the presents as i go along but not to get to a certain number this yr it's gotten stupid cause I have been buying since July and only the past few weeks got them out and wrote them all down, I don't have a set amount and don't get into debt I do like them to have the same amount but imagine it would he alot harder with a big age gap xx

My mum always set a budget for me and my sister.. I have a half sister 9 years older from my dad's side - and mum and dad never bought her stuff through the year just sent her stuff at Christmas and birthday, so she always got more then my sister and me.. But we always understood, as she was older she needed more... Plus we were spoilt throughout the year (she never lived / stayed with us as she lives in another country).

But when she was older and she came and stayed with us, she couldn't get over what we got for christmas / birthdays etc.. Her mum had only ever bought her 5 presents and that was it.. :nope:

And apparently her mum used to go through the stuff mum and dad would get her and give some of it away as it "wasn't suitable" - She only found out later in life..

I reckon as long as your happy with what you give your kids and they are happy with what they receive no problems.. I mean it will be all meaningless crap in 6 months when they want something else anyway...

for us, it doesn't matter. i write an 'idea's' list of what i think she would love and work my way through that. i don't stick to it rigorously though. i don't have a budget either.
my mum said to me one that as you get old the present's get smaller and the price gets bigger! i no we don't have that yet, but i wouldn't feel bad honey, they are at totally different ages thus the presents are going to be different. dan will have an understanding of what things cost.
personally, i think you do amazingly for both of your boys :hugs: xx
