I'm in the US, so it's shockingly bad here with maternity/paternity leave. My hubby gets NONE. He has saved up his sick and vacation days and gets a whopping 10 work days to be home with me. I'm nervous about him going back to work and me being on my own so soon! I've tried talking him into taking unpaid time off (Family Medical Leave Act means he can take up to 12 weeks unpaid) but he's so worried about money he won't even take a few days off unpaid. :(

How much time are your OHs taking off to be home with you?

I'm trying to talk DH into taking some unpaid time.

I guess I'm kind of lucky due in November because he'll get another few days over Christmas and New Years (like 2 more days :dohh)

My OH will be taking 2 weeks paternity. That's fully paid. He can take additional unpaid leave I think, but we can't afford to do that.

I can't believe the law is like it is over there. I don't think it allows you enough time to bond with your newborn :nope:

Mine gets a weeks paid paternity and is taking a weeks leave, so he'll be home for a fortnight.

my hubby doesnt get paternity leave either, so i am having my scheduled c section on a friday evening so he doesnt have to miss work , he is off on the weekends, than that following monday he is taking his 2 weeks vacation time so i will get him a total of 16 days before he has to go back to work, mainly so he can help with out 16 month old.

mine will have 10-14 days we haven't decided yet, he gets paternity pay but it's crap & we'd really struggle so he's gonna be using his holiday allowance instead xx

My hubby just gor approved for 30 days leave! all paid, he's been saving up for it :) He did the same for when our 1st was born!

My husband gets 35 weeks parental leave at 96% pay. Looking forward to having him home with us.

My hubby gets 10 days (basically 2 weeks) but isn't going to take them until baby is 2 weeks old and we bring him to Florida to see my family and our friends. However, for those first 2 weeks he'll be able to spend most of his time at home since he can work from home, so that's good!!

My husband owns his own business so he can't take much time off. I think I have convinced him to take a week off. I know he will be going in to work during that time but as long as he gets some important quality time with the baby I don't care. I am not too scared about being home with a newborn. Plus I have both our moms who will be more than willing to help out!

My hubby has his own company (with partners), and December is their slow month, so he's taking the entire month off to be with us! Since he works for himself, he can pretty much take off whatever time I need him to if the baby and I need him for something.

My husband had to use his accrued vacation days in July or lose them, so we will only have about 3 built up by November. However, because I'm having a c-section, he is going to have to take at least 2 weeks off unpaid to help me. I won't even be able to drive our son to school. It's going to be rough. We're trying to save up for it but still need a lot of things and have no family or friends to throw a shower for us. I saved most all my son's things, but still need some stuff.

My OH is having 2 weeks off, but he'll only be paid £100 a week. So we've had to have a mortgage holiday so we don't have to pay the mortgage in October. Xx

I guess my hubby's 2 weeks seems pretty standard then (for the US). It still sucks though!!

I also don't like that he's having to use his vacation days. We haven't had any proper time off all year.

35 weeks?! Let's all move to Alberta!!

My hubby will be taking 2 weeks as soon as the baby comes, 100% paid vacation time. That's it. He has the option of taking up to 12 weeks of FMLA unpaid, but his work won't go for it, even if it's the law. They'd find some way to fire him if he did that.

My OH only works on weekends unless he gets offered extra hours, but, he'll only be taking 1 week(end) off just to keep money coming in.

We've been saving so my husband can take time off with the baby. He can take up to twelve weeks unpaid, but I think he will take four weeks off unpaid, after the two weeks vacation he has left, so that will be six weeks :)
We are looking forward to the family time!

My OH is taking a week of vacation time. He's not going to take any unpaid days unless I really need him to. I'll have family I can have stay over (like my lil sis who is great with babies) if I need help. I kinda feel bad b/c he'll have to go back to work and I don't want him to lose any sleep at night b/c he has to get up at 5:30 am and works with electricity. Hopefully things will go smoothly.

Mine is entitled to 2 weeks paid paternity leave but he mostly works for a few hours in the afternoons anyway so he'll still be around for a lot of the day when he does go back to work x

Hubby owns his own business - so therefore no paternity pay - his business has been busy and during this recession you can't knock back any work - he will take a week off at Christmas and will most probably have to take more time off in January and February if weather is adverse, but mum will be with me xx

Mine will be using some vacation. He doesn't have much though. But he will be getting a week off between Christmas and new year, so that will be when the baby's a couple of weeks old! My parents will be staying with us to help for a little while so I should be fine.
