Hi Ladies,

Just wondering how much water your little ones are drinking?

DS is not keen on water at all.. i'm lucky if he takes a little tiny sip at a time so practiically nothing at all.He does like diluting juice but i reckon the sweetener in it gives him diarhea not to mention it is not recommended anyways :dohh:

He has fruit after his lunch and dinner and also still has his bottle at night but is this enough fluid!?!

He is not constipated so i am assuming he is taking enough fluids!?!

Anyone with any tips or tricks on how to get him drinking more?

Thanks Cx

He needs 1-1.5 x his weight in lbs of fluids hun. Omar drinks 2 full cups 6 oz each + 15-18 oz of milk. He doesn't drink juice

I'm very lucky as Lucy loves water and milk... in fact if I try to give her anything else, she looks at me like I'm poisoning her.

I think you would soon know if your LO is dehydrated as he woudl be quite poorly. As long as he is eating well and drinking milk? he will be just fine.
xx

He has been having around 18oz of milk.

I guess i need to persevere with the water, offering it more often but he has it out of the sippy cup and tends to spit it everywhere :-s quite frustrating!

Did you try herbal teas? Camomile tea is a good option

No i've not tried teas, never heard of that before actually i'll have a look into it thanks :D

Is mixing freshfruit juice with water a bad idea? I worry about rotting his teeth!

I don't think it's a good idea if he'll have a sippy around all day. But if he drinks it, then gets his teeth brushed it should be find I guess. the same applies with milk from a bottle xx

I would only be giving him juice at meal times from a sippy cup.

Maybe if i had a non spill cup available for him to have water all day then he would like to go to it as he likes!

I reckon it's down to me not trying hard enough.. it can be a tad frustrating when he spits it everywhere and then shakes the cup everywhere too :-s.

I did have the same problems with solids too.. he was fussy and would gag but perseverance has really seen him come on leaps and bounds. By persevenrance i don't mean forcing him but just keep offering it and now he is eating mostly everything we eat.

I'll make it my next goal along with the walking :D x

my LO loves water/juice anything!! He drinks about 2/3 beakers a day and has 1 x 6oz milk before bed in a bottle. He has a non spill cup around all day.

Maybe you could try leaving a cup of water out and you taking sips now and again. He will soon copy

This sounds about what Gabriel drinks and he's just under 20lbs. We've never offered him anything other than milk and water, so it's never been an issue for us to get him to drink it.
We leave a straw sippy of water out at all times and he just drinks it as he wants it over the course of the day. I think it's a 6oz cup and I always have to refill it at least once.

jake won't drink water.
i give it him with a splash of juice.
he loves his milk though!

Clara drinks between 4-8oz of water a day, about 4-6oz of whole milk plus 3-4oz of milk in her cereal for breakfast and still nurses 3-5 times a day. She also eats lots of fruit and has yoghurt most days.

My lo is like this water or breastmilk.. I tried to giv her coconut water, she drinks it but very reluctantly like its somethin shes not supposed to drink! Altho it is a healthy alternative to juice! Lol

It is an uphill struggle getting Daisy to drink water. She drinks barely any. She spits juice straight back out so that's a no go as well. She loves milk though.

Callum has three 6oz bottles in the day of milk and then will have about a quater of a cup of water after each meal, occasionally he'll point to it during the day to not just at meal times. He would hardly have any water from his sippy cup but we got some of the ikea plastic cups and he drinks so much better out of it (I hold it for him when he drinks) xx

It depends really. In the height of summer (high 30s, low 40s - celsius) she can drink 35oz of water alone. On less hot days she will drink around 25oz. She does sweat lots though, even when it's not warm, so I constantly need to replenish her water because she's been prone to dehydration in the past.

I should add that I have never forced my daughter to drink. I would offer her it, and she might drink some. I then leave it on the floor during the day and she knows where to find it. Every so often I remind her that it's there, and she drinks if and when she wants it. Now she can ask for it verbally, but I still make sure it's readily available to her and topped up.

BTW these amounts do not include her formula feeds - on average she will have about 15oz of formula per day

If he won't drink water at all, there is a juice called Rocks Organic which doesn't have any sweeteners or anything in, and is the only thing we will give Tegan. She loves it - and we don't feel THAT guilty about her having it either :)
