How skanky (but slightly amusing) is this?!

I bought my grobag temperature egg thing from tesco yesterday - been meaning to get it for ages so was quite excited to finally get round to doing it (small things, I know!) Anyway, I was going to look inside the box before I bought it, but it had a sticker on the top saying 'security protected - do not open' so I didnt!

When I got home, I opened it up (thank god I did and didnt leave it til nearer my due date, I almost just stuck it into the baby's room!) and when I looked inside there was no grobag egg; but two stinking big red onions!! Clearly some thieving weirdo had stolen the grobag egg and put onions in its place to make it feel like there was something inside and then put a sticker on the top to stop people checking what was inside!

I was sooo cross and am still sooo outraged now! I'm also a bit scared that tesco wont believe me when I tell them my story today and think I'm the thieving scum and wont give me my proper grobag egg!!!!

I also just thought it was so weird, what kind of a person would want some stolen item to be associated with their baby/child?! how horrible is that?!

(Also - for anyone else thinking of buying a grobag egg - I went to babies r us afterwards and it was £3 cheaper in there anyway at £16.99!)

x

Lol that's quite funny, they will give you your money back coz they don't like people to kick off (I used to work there) whoever did it was quite inventive obviously! Lol xxx

Lol! That is so strange! I hope you get your money back but I'm sure you will. I know what you mean about that stolen baby item thing. We ordered a car seat from mothercare and they delivered us a high chair. They haven't seemed bothered about getting the high chair back even though it was worth £100 and they've since delivered the car seat. I know it's not really like we've stolen the high chair but I still don't want it. It feels too dishonest I guess.

Oh my god! sorry that did make me smile a bit just trying to picture your face when you opened it. I would give tesco a ring first to them if you can't go right back. You never know they might give you something for the inconvenience.

ah that makes me feel a bit less stressed about it frecks - and i will certainly be throwing a pregnant lady esque tantrum if they dont believe me!!

Honestly hormonal my face must've been a picture, I peered into the box and I thought, hmm it looks a bit of a strange colour and shape but maybe thats what its meant to be like and then when I tipped it up and a bit of onion skin fell off I was like - OH MY GOD!!!!!

I did ring them last night and the main customer services line said they'd give me the ££ back or a real grobag egg; but they said that I'd need to take it to the store I bought it from (which is about 50 miles away from where I live!) so I'm just hoping I can take it back to another tesco extra closer to where i live - I dont see why I should have to pay £5 or £6 in petrol just to take it back to the store where it came from?!

oh bless you, your face must have been a picture!! i bought mine second hand they sell on ebay for about £5.00 i would tell them you cant take it back to the store and get the extra to refund you!

fairy chick - they're thermometers/night lights - nothing very exciting! but apparently they're really good.

see: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Grobag-Egg-HC111/dp/B000DZF1WE

yeah I think I will try and get a refund and then buy it elsewhere for cheaper, although to be honest it was nice to feel that one thing was ticked off my lengthy list!!!!

Whaaat haha some people seriously.. least you know no to check things before leaving if its in a box!

There was a story in my local paper the other day about a girl who used her child as the 'carrier' for the things she's nicked from our local House Of Fraser & Harvey Nics... mainly rings etc she'd make the child wear the things she'd want and walk out with them!

My mum a few times when I was a baby and the nappies were expensive she'd put them under my pram and the rest of the things on my apron to pay for but 'forget' about the nappies and if anyone asked about the nappies if she'd payed she'd just act like she'd 'totoally forgotten about them' tut tut but a few times isnt that bad!

I'm not encouraging theft in any shape or form though haha ;)

Hiya hun :D I work in tesco. They ask u to return it to the store for stock taking purposes, as its theft ur returnin the box but the items missing. That's awful tho some people are freakin weirdos. Some stores security tag nappies cos they know druggies will rob nappies an sell them. Usually they will refund u an give u a lil giftcard for the inconvience. Good luck. Let's us know how it goes x

Oh god really princesskiki?! Its a 100 mile round trip just to take a pair of blinking onions back!! Do you think they'll pay my petrol??! I'm going to try and take it back to the closer tesco extra tonight and see what happens anyway. x

Lol onions?! Id ring the store you bought from, and ask if you can take it to a closer tesco, otherwise you might have made a wasted trip to the closer one if they cant take it back there.

Goodluck xx

Catherine896 - thats what I did yesterday and they said it HAD to go to the original store; but I'm hoping if I make a bit of a fuss about being 7 months pregnant and having to drive 50 miles to the other stupid store they might cut me some slack?! Keep your fingers crossed for me ladies! X

I know from my work in retail customer services that stock wise faulty/items missing parts have to be returned to the original store unless the store manager has agreed otherwise in advance. I'd call the closer store and ask to speak to the manager (duty manager can usually agree if store manager is not there but try for store manager in the first instance). Hope you get it sorted! x

Hehe this made me giggle but sorry for the inconvenience!

It reminds me of when my mum bought me a desktop pc for my birthday and it didn't arrive after 2 weeks. She called and complained and they said she could collect one in store which she did. The day after the other one was delivered when she was out! She called the shop but they never returned any calls so she kept it! Surprises me that they never noticed!!

Hi ladies, just thought I would update you - I managed to take it back to my local store and they gave me a refund!! They weren't happy about it but I pointed out that it made no financial sense for me to return it to the original store as would cost the same in petrol as it did to buy in the first place! Anyway I didn't have to fight too hard thankfully!

I think it did give the woman a good laugh when I told her the story anyway! X

Edit: Didn't see your post when I posted. Glad you got it back :D

Thanks periwinkle!!

Mrsmalowey - it is very funny!! I'm not sure I would have seen the funny side if they had made me drive to take it back but a good story to tell - I tried to buy a babys room thermometer and ended up with two red onions!!! Haha!!!!

That's so cool re your freebie pc! It is good when stuff happens the other way round! X
