i realise this isnt for everyone..... but i was wondering do many of you do it?? and how???

I cant find my lady garden for a shave let get in a position when I can check my cervix!

Why would anyone want to?

haha!! same here... i saw a thread on here before saying that people do examine there own cervix - to check if they are dilating or what ever else.... and im curious to no how, i was told at the hospital last week that my cervix is shortened and funneling, and was wondering if i can tell if i have progressed towards labour.... (without having to go to the hospital)

Lol me neither! I thought you werent meant to check your cervix while your pregnant??

to be honest, i'm not entirely sure it's worth it unless you are used to feeling your cervix. i wouldn't have a clue what it was like before so i wouldn't notice whether it was effaced or had changed position.

most of the women that check used to check their cervix while TTC so they have more of an idea what they're routing around for! :haha: x

I will have a terrible massive bush come D day, and I dont think I actually care either lol

The cervix shouldnt really be accessible, the area between the cervix and uterus is call the OS and this will be sealed anyway, so what is someone supposed to be checking and why?

I dont want to introduce a possible infection into the area either.

I think its fine to feel for ur cervix etc its your body and its good to know it.
Just make sure your hands are VERY clean and no nails!
Its all about common sence really.
Well its far back (may have to use middle finger) its like a soft bump with a dent feeling in middle. If you look it up on google you will see pics and then u will be like AH ha thats my cervix.
I wouldnt be able to tell how dilated i was and all that long but blah blah stuff it confuses me lol

you're not supposed to check it because of the risk of introducing infection. however, it's your call - if your hands are clean and you're not trying to stick anything up there then it's a risk most women are willing to take x

ok, well thanks for all the replies.... since i have never examined my cervix befor i suppose it would be a bit pointless cos i wont no what was it was, or is supposed to be :) :)

I think a lot of ladies TTC have checked their cervixes for months with no health issues...obviously its important to have clean hands and is no dirtier than a man's penis in your vagina (and let's face it he isn't going to have always just washed it with soap and water now is he!)
I personally dont think there is anything wrong with exploring your own body sensibly!

My thoughts are exactly the same as cdj1, my clean fingers in the shower are alot less likely to introduce infection or bacteria than my hubbys willy, let's face it they don't wash there hands before the hold it to pee! It's kinda gross if u think about it! But yes I check mine once in a while but I know what I'm looking for...if u didn't it would most likely just be all mushy in there!

I used to check mine but I have lost my plug so I stopped, before this my cervix felt short (about 2cm) and mushy and slightly dilated, (about 1cm) apparently this is how it should feel with a second baby... I havent checked for about 10 days, Id like to think if my plug was coming away that something is happening up there... I lost another chunk of it today with bits of blood in.. Im sure its a good sign!!! x

I've checked mine a few times but also did this when ttc so I know what I'm looking for.

As other ladies have said my clean hands after taking a bath or scrubbing them with soap is far less likely to cause an infection then my partners penis would if he ever got the chance to go up there that is :haha: sorry for the tmi lol. x

I think checking your cervix while TTC is a bit different, there is no baby in there! Also when your having sex and the penis hits your cervix, it hurts and it hurts for a reason, you're not supposed to be poking around up there :) I also don't think a penis is poking around as much as what your fingers will be doing.

Having sex never hurt during my pregnancies with my girls. Not actually dtd this time because I have lost all of my sex drive but am sure if we did I wouldn't find it painful either.

Also what about foreplay surely if a man has big hands he would hit the cervix with his fingers and who knows he may not have washed his hands beforehand.

As long as you know what you are doing then I don't see no harm unless of course your waters have broken then it would be a big no no. x

Oh I was just referring to if his penis accidentally hits your cervix during sex, it hurts me anyway!
