My LO is 9 weeks tomorrow and has the worst cough and cold. She has a hacking cough. Is there anything I can do to ease it? She is having infant paracetamol twice a day as directed by the doctor. She doesn't have a temperature, just a snotty blocked nose and a hacking cough. She is throwing up most of her feeds but still having wet and dirty nappies. It's heartbreaking to watch her so unwell. :(

Oh bless hun, Melody is currently on her second cold and it sucks. I find a nasal aspirator a lifesaver, and we use nasal drops (suitable from birth) on her before feeds or if she gets really snotty to help clear her nose. Asda do ones called Nasosal but I think Calpol have ones too. It's so hard being before three months so they can't have cough syrup or vics or anything!

Hope she is better soon :hugs:

Thanks Drazic. She has had three colds in less than nine weeks! Poor hubby dozed on the sofa last night with her in her baby carrier so I could get some sleep.

She's due her first immunisation tomorrow and we've already had to postpone it once. There's no way she'll be well enough to have it tomorrow either. Poor little mite. I just feel so useless not being able to relieve her symptoms.

I hope little Melody feels better very soon. :)

Edited to add that I've been using a nasal aspirator and drops too. :)

Aww bless her, and you! It's hard work when they are sick. One thing which has cheered Melody up is watching 'babyTV' on youtube, she keeps giggling at it  One other thing which helps is steam. I ran a hot bath for me and her Dad sat with her in a bathroom when it was all steamed up. Helps clear them out.

Another few weeks and they can have all the stuff which helps, thankfully!

Hi - our bug also has a hacking cough/cold and was spitting up a lot more than he usually does. We took him to the Dr. and found out it was a respiratory infection. He told us to feed LO less but more often and to dilute his bottle by 25%. We raised the head of his matress by putting a pillow under it, we bought a humidifier (cool mist), we clean out his nasal passages with saline drops and a nasal aspirator 2-3 times a day (which he HATES but it works very well), we steam up the bathroom when we shower and bring him in the room for 15 min 2 x daily and we are trying to encourage him to get as much sleep as possible. That is all we can think of to do - it horrible to feel like he's so uncomfortable....these measures do seem to be helping though.

Hope your LO feels better soon :hugs:
