I *think* I've found the problem with my left side. Her bottom lip isn't curled outwards like all the advice says.
My right side is totally pain free, I actually enjoy feeding her and her lip is curled out and she is latched perfectly.
My left side however is extremely painful and I absolutely dread feeding her on that side. I only noticed today that her lip is curled inwards on that side for some reason...could that be the cause of the pain? How do I get her bottom lip curled out once she's on? I've tried taking her off and putting back on endless times but she just won't do it

I'm curious to see any answers to this. my baby is 6 weeks old, and we still have problems on the left side. that side had been severely cracked, and is STILL a bit tender and appears to be "missing" a small piece.

the only thing that helped me was to stop guiding her, stop trying to make her "do it right" and i let her just do what she wanted. i stopped holding my breast, i stopped trying to have her open wide and take in a large portion. i let her do it her way (which is slurping in the nipple, then adjusting her latch) and now it hurts for a few seconds while she gets adjusted, then we're ok. i stopped checking to see if her mouth was "right", my nipples have just toughened up.

I sometimes find that pushing in on my breast just under her bottom lip helps to curl it out.

I have this too, it just doesn't get a chance to heal though :(

My dd did this too. I'm trying to remember but I think I found that checking the angle that the nipple is going towards her upper lip is correct helped, almost making her reach for it and have to tip her head way back, and then pulling in her hips to my other side. She was a wee bit older when I started playing a game with her when she did that, I would pull her away and then towards me a few times as if I was teasing her, and that would make her open her mouth wide and feed properly where before she was maybe just toying with it. Sounds odd but it worked for me! Good luck. x
