I planned to B'feed for a year and it's 9 months now, so anyone who done this before and stopped. How did you do it?
any tips ?

no one?
I mean do you stop right away, or try to introduce a bottle slowly to the baby?

I'm not sure hun, cause it wasn't my choice when we stopped, but I would think a sippy cup or another kind of cup would be best.

I started weaning Jay off Boobie milk at 4 months as I wanted to do it really slowly and in time for me going back to work :D

He started off on one bottle of formula instead of bf for a few weeks, then a second, then a third and last night was his last bf before bed so will give him a bottle tonight instead. It's a bit weird being the end of an era, but it feels like the right time for both of us.

Because of Lincolns age, you're probably best to go straight to the sippy cup rather than the bottle.

Good luck :)

i know super nanny (jo frost ? ) has a fab book with tips in for stopping bf hun xx

Hey chick,

Gracie kind of made the decision to stop most of her feeds at 5 months, so I went quickly from 9 small feeds in 24hrs, down to 2 at best. As a result I got mastitis!! Ouch  I got told off by the HV and Doc - but as I couldn't express I had little choice but to experience 'cold turkey' - NOT good.

HV told me to slowly reduce the feeding by dropping one feed at 1st. She advised one day to cut that one feed out, then the next day include it again, then repeat for another cycle then miss that feed for two days then offer again etc. Then work on the same principle for the other feeds you offer. Always targetting one feed at time rather than all of them. So all in all weaning them off can take up to a month depending on how many feeds you provide.

Hope this helps a little? If you have a good supply and still get engorged the doc told me I could have expressed a small amount off to relieve some of the pressure (but don't go mad!!!!! Or your body will still get told to produce the milk).

Good luck, sadly it's not just the physical feelings you have to deal with when stopping BF. The sadness hit me like a bullet to the heart when we stopped and I miss it now we've fully stopped!!

I was told its best not to stop straight away as you will end up with really sore boobies so I started just to feed her first thing in the morning and last thing at night, with bottles through the day. After a couple of weeks I just fed her myself last thing at night. It slowed the milk flow right down so when I did stop completely, I had hadly any discomfort. Hope this helps xx

I'm slowly weaning my little man off me too  You need to do it gradually otherwise you'll end up with sore boobies. I planned to phase in one extra bottle a week and express once so that lil man can still have boobie juice once I'm completely done. The mental stuff is the hardest though as I'm still stuck on one bottle a day and can't yet get to two :dohh: x

I agree the hardest bit is the mental/emotional bit. I'm actually going backwards! I have given her post bath feed in a bottle for ages but I'm moving back to a BF in preparation for going to 3 meals a day and going back to work. I can handle engorge (.Y.) s but it's the stopping altogether I'm not looking forward to
