i am scheduled to have this exam done tomorrow and am seeking some advice/support. i have heard this can be extremely painful. can anyone tell me anything about this?? Thank you!

I had a HSG done a couple months back. Mine was a little more painful because of tipped/odd cervix but i would not say extremely. Mostly feels like a bad cramp and then you continue to have some cramping for the rest of the day or so. I also had some spotting and some spotting during the next week after bd. just another hurdle to get over!! nothing like labor pain i am sure....

Thank you.. i tend to get myself worked up over nothing...

I was terrified at the thought of mine, and honestly it was fine. Of course it's not nice but I found it easier than a normal smear test. I just concentrated on a spot on the ceiling and just looked at the that the whole time, I also did lots of deep breathing. I took Anadin an hour before as I would with my period, that also helped. It's over very quickly, please don't worry too much, the thought of it is much worse than the procedure!:hugs:

i havent had one yet but just wanted to wish you luck and hope it goes ok x

I was all psyched up for it to be awful, and for me it wasn't. I am a big wimp too! I has slight cramping after, but the procedure itself was pretty painless! Good luck- try not to psych yourself out!:hugs:

I was so scared that i was crying - i felt like a right div when it was over because it wasnt that horrid. It's no picnic, don't get me wrong - but it's not the butchery i was expecting. i like to think of it as a smear test with a jet wash! theres a few pinches and twinges but take some pain relief before you go in and you should be fine. x

Hi
I had also read lots of horror stories and was absolutely dreading my HSG, I was feeling sick at the thought of it and almost called it off at the last minute cos I was so terrified! In the end it was totally fine. The speculum thing going in is never pleasant but that was just the same as a smear test, actually it was in for less time than during a smear test. I didn't feel anything at all when the dye was going in, and the whole thing was over in about 10 minutes maximum. I had a few light period-type cramps for a few hours afterwards, but they were no problem. I took a couple of nurofen about 20-30 mins before. I am sure that you will be fine, just try to relax. I just tried to chat to the nurse about her holidays in order to distract me whilst the doctor was doing her thing..
Good luck!

I am having one thursday! Full of nerves but all the ladies on here have been great and Im not worried now! Good luck hun hope everything is clear :)

Good luck for today! I had a HSG done last month and it wasn't any where near as bad as I was expecting. It was all over in about 10 mins, and I got to see the results there and then too. All clear with me which was great.
I had a little cramp like pain as the dye went in, no pain afterwards.

Hi - i had a HSG done on Friday and it wasnt the worst - dont get me wrong it wasnt the best either but totally manageable. The worst part is when they put the dye in - your stomach will cramp up (like a really bad period pain) but it doesnt last that long. Just make sure you take some painkillers before hand to help ease the pain. And I just had the odd twinge afterwards too - a good bit of spotting also so bring a pantyliner.

Good luck - its well worth it in the end to know one way or the other if your tubes are clear or not! Mine were thank god.

Thanks so much girls:). Had it done, it wasn't so bad. I cried of course sitting there on my gown while she was explaining the procedure. Not because of the procedure itself, but scared of the results. It was truly amazing to see my uterus and Fallopian tubes on the screen as she injected the dye. I find out the results this afternoon or tomorrow. Thank you all!! Oh and I have had some pretty significant spotting. This is normal right. Is sex ok? What about exercise today??

Yeay! I'm glad it went ok. I didn't see my tubes etc was too busy staring at the ceiling!:haha:

We were told not to "try" that month, as I was given antibiotics in case I caught an infection from the procedure.

I guess excercise is fine, I can't see why not.

Fingers crossed your tubes are fine!:hugs:

Glad it went ok!

Oh thats so disappointing to hear.. I thought you could start trying again right away. :(

the doctor told me to try as soon as i got home!! clearing your tubes increases your chances to get pregnant so go to it girl!! I HAD lots of spotting so completely normal. hopefully you can get som BD in!!

I had mine done a couple of weeks ago and it wasnt very pleasant. She had to inject two lots of dye into me cos she cudnt see me tubes apparently so cudnt see the dye goin thru them. Fortunately on the second lot of dye she said she cud see the dye coming out of me ovaries but cudnt track it in me tubes..but everything was ok. Blooming thing lasted 25mins and i was just relieved to get the probe thing out of me..wudnt wanna go thru that again in a hurry

yeah the spotting is normal - i had light red/pink spotting for a few hrs after the procedure then it just went to light brown/watery spotting for the next 2 days. We didnt bother having sex cos i wasnt that close to Ov anyway. But there is no real reason why not - i'd prob give yourself a day or 2 if you can just to make sure all the dye is out (which i'm sure it is but just to be on the safe side) then I get :sex: like rabbits! :haha: :bunny: :haha:

Well I held off on the exercise yesterday because i kept having globs of that fluid come out of me all morning. I dried up by the early afternoon though and me and OH went to dinner and came home and practiced our BD...gotta get warmed up for every other day coming up. Oh and the doctor called today and told me my tubes are all clear! i noticed immediately after the procedure that when I went to the restroom, "stuff" came out.. Like silt looking stuff. You know when you go hiking and you get home and have to dump out your shoes because you have collected dust and small pebbles and the like? it was kind of like that. So hopefully that dye cleared me out and i can now be a baby making factory, LOL!!
