I'm scheduled to have an HSG done tomorrow at 12pm :(

On Saturday I received a prescription in the post from the hospital which is for antibiotics but there is no other information. I've looked into it and some people have to take it before the test and others take it after?? The prescription can only be dispensed from the hospital pharmarcy so I can't get it until I go tomorrow???

Anyone know how they do it in the UK?? Particularly Musgrove Park Hospital in Somerset.

Thanks xxx

Hi, I never got any antibiotics, they just recommended ibuprofen before hand, it didn't hurt me at all, I was v worried about it before, but it wasn't even as bad as a smear! Hope all goes well! Will be thinking of u.

Thanks for that - you've reassured me!!! I'm having it done on CD10 which my doctor has said is perfect timing as my body should be gearing up to OV around days 13/14 my cervix should be soft and hopefully slightly open so the tube can go in without too much forcing xx

Yes that's what day I had mine! I'm such a wimp when it comes to needles or anything to do with hospital! U will be fine just make sure you have a nice treat when u come out, my lovely dh had coffee and chocolate waiting for me. How have u been feeling?

Thinking of trying soy next cycle, I'm on 9dpo and bbs started to hurt so don't think I'll get bfp, was so low yday, where dud u get them from, when do u take them? I ovulate on cd 12 xx

Just wanted to say lots of luck
we are here for you! And what is an hsg?

fellcrazy - an HSG is a procedure where they inject dye into your uterus and then x-ray you to see if the dye has travelled into the fallopian tubes ok. It should show any tubal blockages and problems within the uterus.

jojo - I bought my soy from the vitamin section in Tescos. Although they only have them in the bigger store near me and not the 3 regular supermarkets. You should take soy on day you would clomid so 2-6, 3-7, 4-8 or 5-9. Last cycle I took it on days 2-6 and ovulated on day 14. This cycle because I was miscarrying I wasn't sure what to do so I took it on days 3-7.

Really sorry about your mc :( fx for your BFP soon :) do you have regular cycles, and what day did you O before you took soy? X

My cycles were very irregular after my MC in March 2009 but I started acupuncture in June 2010 and my cycles quickly became 27 days with OV on day 13. However even though I had all the signs of OV my blood tests kept saying the my progesterone levels were either too low for ovulation or too low to be a viable egg. My bloods showed my progesterone level was 40 this cycle when it had been 15 before!!!xx

i also had my hsg on cd10 .... for me it hurt like hell!! i aint ever like period pain like it but i was informed at a follow up appointment that i had a slight heart shaped utereus so maybe that was to blame for the pain x

I called the hospital in the end and they said take the antibiotics half an hour before the procedure........................maybe it would be nice to send those instructions when they send a prescription lol xx

I am scheduled for an HSG next month. My doctor prescribed me antibiotics to start taking the day before, day of and day after to be sure of any possible infections.

From what I am told(since I asked him about pain) the more painful it is usually means the more blocked your tubes are. I asked my doctor if I could go ahead and get blood tests for low progesterone but, said it really isn't necessary since IF your tubes are blocked then that might be why I am not conceiving.

I personally don't see the harm in a blood test to be honest lol.

Much luck to you!! Let us know how it goes! :hugs:

I had a HSG about 6 months ago, very painful :( At the time both my tubes were blocked (hense the pain) but they managed to unblock one tube

I'm back for another next Friday, hopefully it won't be as painful!

Cheekybint....could you describe your pain for us? What did you have to do to subside the pain during the procedure? Scream? Clench something? Just kinda wondering...

I see myself SCREAMING if its painful...I was screaming my head off when I had to get a needle prodded in my arm 10 different times because they couldn't find the vein(I was severely dehydrated because I had food poisioning!)

I was totally unprepared for the level of pain i felt.

Id taken pain killers before hand but they didn't help. The pain was like a cross between very bad period pains and someone pulling my insides out through my vagina!! i had nothing to grip except a nurses hand and i ended up screaming for them to stop. The pain stopped almost as soon as they did

This time i intend on taking stress balls to squeeze and stronger pain killers.

I don't want to scare anyone, i understand this amount of pain is very rare, i was just very unlucky!!

Wow, so they didn't complete the procedure because the pain was too much? :( That scares me lol but, I was scared to begin with haha. I wish there was a way to check the tubes via ultrasound!!

It's only 8am here hun and I'm booked in today at 12pm. Will update you all later xx

omg this is scaring me :(
i'm on cd2 and am scheduling my hsg for sometime end of next wk (doc has to call me back)

how long does this procedure take?

I was in and out of the hospital within 20 minutes. The actual thing took about 5.

It was painful but bearable although I found the cramping I suffered with all afternoon worse.

Make sure you're stocked up on painkillers and you'll be fine!!xx
