Booked in for a HSG tomorrow don't know whether it will go ahead. Was told I can't be bleeding and had to be before cd10. The thing is I tend to spot for 4 days stop for 2 then bleed for another 4 days so total of 10 days. I thought I was spotting before I came on my period proper but the fertility doctor that I saw said when I saw blood I had to take it as my first day, so hence 10 day period.
Anyway tomorrow will be in between spotting and bleeding my question is will I be aloud to have it done, Why can't you have it done when on other than being a bit messy? And if I can't have it done tomorrow can I go over the 10 days?
Thanks in advance xxx

Hi. I have been having trouble booking my HSG too; they only do them on a Thurs (and then only 3 a week) and it has to be between days 5-10 of cycle. In my experience, this is slightly more difficult than locating a needle in a haystack!? I have asked the same question, because I tend to get tail end brown bleeding and I was told this would be OK. But if you are bleeding properly, then I really don't know. Sorry I can't be more use but please let me know how you get on. What other tests have you had and how long have you been TTC? X

We've been trying for 19 mths had blood tests which are in the process of being repeated first were normal but I wasn't sure they were taken at the right time and had an ultrasound to see if I'm a women!! (my words!!) and everything looked normal apparently. I can see this HSG is going to be a pain. I don't understand why it has to be on or before day 10 I know I ovulate after this so why should it be a problem.

I had it done wasn't pleasant but needed to be done and i'm all fine

Hi, glad to hear you got it over and done with. I am hoping to have mine done 15th July (well, I'd rather get a BFP instead) but I'm not holding out much hope this month! When will you get the results? Your situ sounds similar to mine, I had a m/c in Feb 08 and now 15 cycles with no success. I have had my 1st appt. with a fertility specialist and 3 cycles of bloods taken but I can't get the results until my follow up appt. Is this the same for you? My boyfriend has also had his sperm tested but again, they won't give out results over the phone. I am a bit disappointed with this, as though TTC isn't frustrating enough already?!

Hello again. So, I am really not trying to raise anyones hopes here but I just read a few interesting threads about HSG's increasing the chances of conception? I don't know if there is any thruth to it but I am personally feeling a tiny bit more positive than I have done in a long time! Has anyone else heard of this, is it true? If so, does it only make a difference to you if you actually did have a blockage? Final question (and I am sorry if I am being a little stupid) but is an HSG also known as a lap & dye?

Hi I've read also that it can increase chances probably due to small blockages being there in the first place and being flushed out with the dye. We can both hope it works for us!!
My first set of bloods was done by the doctor and the second were requested by the gynae doctor, my doctor referred me to. As far as I'm aware I can get the results through my doctor for both but I work for the NHS and although it's probably naughty I can look at my own results!! Husband hasn't had his tests done yet but will be doing soon not sure I can check his but again I'm sure the Doctor said he could phone up for the results. It's a pain in the butt you have to wait so long for your results. I think lap and dye is the same thing as HSG I'll have a quick google

Just had a look and it isn't the same with lap and dye they make a small incision and put a camera in to have a look all done under general anaesthetic

i think thats Laparoscopy i can be wrong.

The test should be scheduled after your period ends, but before you expect to ovulate, usually between days 6 to 10 of your menstrual cycle. I am not sure though if your having heavy bleeding it can be dangerous since the injection of the dye is goin into your body with AF not might be good.

Were you able to do the HSG today?

hopes fading, does your username relate entirely to your foiled attempts at booking an HSG?

LOL - it directly relates to each crappy stage of TTC I have experienced - so right now you are probably correct, it's the failed attempts at fitting the criteria for an HSG. You wouldn't believe how my much of a nose dive my luck has taken since first trying to book this procedure! How do you do all these funny emoticons? Not only am I rubbish at making babies, it seems I am rubbish at technology too ;-D X

Thanks for this info. A little gutted now though, I think the lap & dye is the procedure that seems to increase the chances of conception the most? But I am blocking it from my mind and practising being grateful that I am being taken seriously at all! I have already been warned that because I had a m/c I won't be eligible for fertility treatments on the NHS?!

Hi hun,

I believe you can't have it done while you're menstruting is because the blood may interfere with the dye. You can't get an HSG done 10 days later...usually only between CD 6-10, so they can be sure you aren't pregnant or ovulating, as the dye may disrupt a pregnancy or ovulation.

If you still have a full flow tomorrow, I'd call them first. If it's just spotting, you should be okay to go ahead with your HSG.

Good Luck!

I did have it done I explained I was in the middle and would probably start bleeding again and they were fine as long as I wasn't bleeding that day so the procedure went ahead
