Hi Ladies, Part vent really.

A few weeks ago my lo lost her appetite for a week or so, not by much I just noticed less oz drank and less frequent, at 16/17 weeks it was all night wakings ect ect and I know it was sleep regression/spurt.. and she was drinking more milk, I know a spurt as she started rolling ect//
Now at almost 19 weeks her appetite has come even more ravenous and she has been draining 7/8 oz bottles 5 times a day at least.
I tried hungry baby milk but it just doesnt sit well in her stomach, we get cottage cheese style sick a while after feeds and she still will drink 7oz in each bottle.

I spoke to my HV a few days ago and she suggested I try 1 small spoon of baby porridge in the morning and evening with her first bottle and last bottle, but it hasnt really helped at all..(although she loves it and swallows it straight away without spitting it out) she said I shouldnt bother with baby rice as it has no nutritional value but oats in the porridge have shown some good health benefits, like less chance of asthma ect.. anyhow im going to keep doing this but last night at 230am she woke up crying, she woke up because she did a big pooh and cant stand being dirty so I changed her quietly and put her back into bed. She was quiet for about 10 minutes I thought she went to sleep but she started crying again, long cries I just knew she was hungry... i gave her a 7oz bottle and she wholloped it down.. then I put her down and she slept again straight away..

Im a bit concerned that this is just going to get worse after a week of things back to normal, I really wnated to wait until 6 months to wean, and Im still going to aim for it, but really anyone had any experience of milk not satisfying and still holding off for 6 months?

Thanks a lot sorry its so long! xxx

some babies just are ready before 6 months. My LO has never been satisfied on milk, from the age of like 8 weeks he was taking 45-50oz a day. We started him off on purees at 4 months, and then swapped him over to BLW at 5 months. He was ready for both at those times, and hes been a much happier baby since weaning. He now eats anything you put on his highchair and doesnt stop till its gone! he was born a big baby and has been on the 99.6th centile for height and weight so i guess its understandable why he wasnt very satisfied x

Lots of babies go through a general wakeful period anyway around 4 months and some even continue after...this is why lots of parents pin it right down to hunger. I can tell you that my near-9-month-old is just as wakeful and he gets PLENTY to eat during the day, a full bowl of porridge in the mornings, AND nurses every 3 hours in the daytime. So I know for him it isn't down to hunger.

You may find other things to be an issue. Teething or the onset of it...about to reach a milestone or just reached one...and even emotional needs, like just wanting to be cuddled.

I've been dealing with this since just before 4 mos and I can empathize with the frustration. You just want to find the one thing that will work and make them happy to sleep.

Have you also looked into your bedtime routine and how it all plays out? Sometimes that can be a factor as well.

I wish there was a magic pill that would just solve all sleep problems.

Thanks guys. I thought no one was going to answer lol.. she has a good night routine and seemed fine with milk i thought she would wait until 6 months... i think im just going to see how it goes with the what the hv suggested and take it from there...

We worked hard to get her into a good routine as she wasnt a good sleeper for the first 8-10 weeks colic ect so when we got her into a routine and she slept 12 hours then it went out the window at 15 weeks when i could tell she was growth spurting then was back to 12 hours a night this week now shes my hungry baby... thanks for the advice, i guess you cant tell what they are going to do next.. and exactly that - i want to find something that works and now lol xx
