So I am now 24 weeks and I haven't had ANY medical care at all because Medicaid is fucked up! and I feel like crap because my LO could have something wrong with it and I wont be able to do anything about it.
I applied at 6 weeks, didn't get approved until 14 weeks. It took a month to get an appointment at an OB/Gyn only to find out that they put me on the wrong plan! I had put in a request to change it and instead they sent me a letter telling me that I'm not pregnant anymore and they were cancelling my benifits. So now I have NO insurance at all and still haven't been able to see a doctor. And I know that if I don't see one soon then people are going to refuse medical care to me because I will be considered a high risk pregnancy.
I'm like bawling on hold with my DHS office because no one cares enough to take calls from legal hard working tax paying citizens.
:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

Sorry y'all I needed to rant.

Hun I had no medical care until I was 18w with my son, (for different reason as I didn't know I was pregnant)

There has to be something you can do just keep trying

Can you not get on state insurance (I'm pretty sure this is different from medicaid)?
How old are you? Do your parents have insurance? Can you not go onto one of their plans?
Do you have a hospital you're interested in giving birth at? If you do, call them and explain the situation. They should be able to forward you to social services, who will have information on other options for insurance. My midwife office has posters everywhere about how if your pregnant and uninsured there's programs to help. I know we have a local one that will offer you normal checkups, as well as the standard ultrasounds for something like $10 an appointment and $20 for the ultrasound.

You really need to get care hon.

Texas Health Steps is the state insurance and that is done through medicaid.
I'm 18.
No my parents aren't even working.
I don't care as long as they will get my baby to me healthy and alive
I've looked up clinics and stuff but they only do free or low cost appointments until 16 weeks.
I've even looked up free clinics which I guess don't exist in Texas.
I don't know what else to do.

I'd call a local hospital hon and explain your situation to them, and ask them for a reference as to who you should contact. They'll have a lot more inside information and knowledge than you'll find from any of us, and online!

The state doesn't want pregnant women or babies uninsured. It ends up costing them more, because it you can't pay the hospital bills...they usually end up having to pay for it one way or another.

There's definitely a solution to it, I'd think that contacting a hospital would be the best bet for help.

My advise is to keep calling the state and talk to different providers, you belong being eligible for state care, so there is no reason why the doctors can not work with you..i know here that a clinic can not turn you down regardless of your financial situation, they will just keep sending you bills until it is eventually paid. Also, there are church groups that help pregnant women in need.

yes, I know they can't but they will also, as you said, send me bills that I wont be able to pay and my credit will be horrible. That'll screw me over in the long run.

im in your same situation, i feel horrible becasue i havent been able to get any medical care yet im 20 weeks, all because of stupid medicaid! and it takes forever to get an appointment with a OB/Gyn, and noone takes medicaid anymore! so i fel your frustration!

I know!! I've looked up free/low income clinics and they are all for illegals!! I've only found spanish only clinics like WTF!! And did you know that even doctors that accept medicaid have a choice whether or not they want to see you?? They can turn you down because they don't want to deal with medicaid. HOW FREAKING RIDICULOUS!!

Texas medicaid sucks! really.. it took me 24 weeks to start getting benifits..

if you feel like somehthing is wrong you can go to the er and they cant refuse you.
Ive been up to the medicaid office twice and waited for about three hours both times its a complete zoo.. you just have to stay on top of it and call every day bc they will not call you back..

I ended up making two complaints on my case worker bc i hadnt heard from her and she finally called back almost right away..

also no one can hold medical expences against you. like if you are trying to buy a car or rent an apartment they legally in texas can not tell you no bc you have medical stuff on your record..

you can pm me if you have any more questions.. im not sure where you are in tx but im in dallas county.. i hope i can help.
i know how fustrating and upsetting it can be but i promise everything will be okay.

:flow:

I feel your pain!! Maybe I should go become a citizen of Mexico or Canada (probably the latter, since it's closer :haha:) then hop the border back to America. I'd get free health insurance, put through college, and hell, if I really wanted to I could get a damn house!
But if you're here legally, work hard, and pay your taxes then you better be a millionaire. Otherwise you're screwed.

Where at in TX are you? There are free pregnancy clinics (usually run by churches or pro life groups) all over the DFW area and I know I've seen them throughout other regions. They can give you care of direct you to care.

You say you haven't had care but your signature says you had a scan in July. How did you get that one?

You can also go to any county hospital for care, they can't turn you down.

Also, I find it odd that you claim to be so upset about this but refuse to ruin your credit over it. Your baby should come before your credit score. Besides medical debt cannot legally be used in this country against you.

I'm going to agree with this and also possibly sound like a bitch, but....

You can go back and fix your credit score, that can be repaired. If your baby develops some sort of physical or mental problem from lack of prenatal care, that can rarely be repaired 100%.

Wow, I cant believe how different all this is outside of the UK!
We dont have to pay a penny for anything...well prescription drugs...but we get them free when we're pregnant anyway.
Ive read you pay to give birth(presuming you dont have insurance)?! Thats so mad!

I really hope you get it all sorted soon!
x

:hugs: you’re doing your best don’t beat yourself up and keep trying :hugs:
I live in the UK so I'm no help, hope all gets sorted soon for you xxxxxx

Even if you have insurance you can still get stuck with a bill! I keep getting billed $800 for GIVING BIRTH. :growlmad:
My insurance won't cover it because they're saying it was a "pre-existing condition" even though, to the best of my knowledge, pregnancy can't be considered a PEC in NJ. Not to mention we faxed over my letter of previous coverage, since I WAS insured before I had to switch to them, and they "never got it." :dohh:
I'm disputing it. I should not have to pay ANY money to give birth.

Yeah, even if you're insured there's still random things they'll charge you for.

Like for some reason, insurance will only pay $115 of my $200 something ultrasound. I've had two ultrasounds, and because of this I now owe my doctors office $215.

i live in the uk and the usa rules ect seem mental! i cant belive you have to pay for care like that when your ill or pregnant! hope everything gets sorted out for you ! x

Hi, I'm also from Texas. Have your heard of/tried Lonestar Circle of Care? I'm not sure if they can help, but they do take Medicaid (once you're able to get it) and are geared for low income/uninsured families. Seton Northwest, depending on where you are (I'm near Austin) doesn't send your information to collections (I BELIEVE), and has excellent care staff.

I hope this will be useful. PM me your area, if you'd like, and I may be able to help you. I know a couple of people who may be able to give me info on where you can go. :)
