I know you're technically not supposed to start kick counting or keeping track of movement until around 28 weeks? but I was wondering because on my baby center app it says if you experience no movement or less movement, contact your doctor or midwife.

I have anterior placenta and although I feel her kicking a lot there are some small movements that she sometimes makes (I can hear on the Doppler but can't always feel) which can lead me to think she isn't wriggling about when in fact she is! Obviously I don't get too worried because she usually kicks hard again after awhile.
I am noticing a pattern in her movements like she kicks in the morning for almost an hour or so, mid afternoon, bedtime ect but sometimes she has quiet days where she's moved position and kicks my cervix.
So my question is if you feel decreased moment with anterior placenta for a day is this something to worry about? Or just assume she's making small movents that are cushioned by the placenta :/ urgh confused.

I have an anterior placenta too but being a few weeks behind you my movement is so tiny in comparison that there's no way I could monitor anything yet. I've only just in the last few days started to feel little occasional tickles in my tummy. It was weird going for the 20 week scan having never felt anything and seeing a baby swimming around inside me that visibly switched from head being on the left to head being in the right of the screen without me feeling the slightest thing.

I think the point I'm making is that having an anterior placenta will make a big difference to the way that we feel things compared to ladies who don't. With this comes the fact that we need to reassure ourselves in slightly different ways as we have no benchmark on which to measure ourselves.

I'd say the fact you've got a Doppler that picks up a beautiful HB and that you are feeling movements even without a pattern is a really good sign. We can't compare ourselves to the normal timescales. There is a big ol' shock absorber in there getting in the way which I totally think makes a huge difference.

hi babes with anterior placenta, apparently you do feel lesser or lightened movements! I don't even know where my placenta lies but I'm pretty sure with both pregnancies they've been in a place where I don't experience this as I felt good movements with the both babies! If your worried have a chant with your midwife! They will probably reassure you about this :) x

Thanks hun this is how I was at my 20 week scan I could only feel selective movements so was really strange. It has taken my a long time to feel these big kicks (only on these past weeks I've been able to feel them from the outside) Like you, it was very small and few movements before but I can assure you it does get stronger it just seems that the pattern isn't always consistent or as strong so I think you're right. We need to go by what we think is 'normal' for our babies.

Maybe this is the reason for the 28 week kick counts.. In 2 weeks time it could mean I feel EVERYTHING even the little wiggles lol that usually go amis, especially when I'm busy because even with an anterior placenta at some point baby must get so big that it will be hard not to miss the small movements x

I was wondering the same thing. I have noticed them getting stronger and more regular but like you wonder whether the quieter days are actually just that the baby is positioned behind the placenta. I still tend to get movements high or low but not so much in the middle.

Linnypops that's how I feel some days she will kick low, high and sometimes cervix. It does worry me when she has these quieter days and I do have to get my Doppler out for reassurance and she's usually asleep or kicking/moving gently so I'm not feeling it.

I found out last week at the scan I have an anterior placenta. I hadn't until around last week felt 'pops'. I feel them now, but they are random and not consistent. I hired a doppler and use it a few times a week, just for reassurance. I also hear the movements on the doppler, he really does wriggle.

It was very strange seeing our baby moving and not feeling it at the scan x

I believe it feels more random to us than ladies without anterior placenta. It's definitely a case of feeling only selective or 'bigger movements'

Glad you have a Doppler too it is nice to have some reassurance when it seems baby is having a quiet day.
I don't think I noticed much of a routine or pattern at 20 weeks either.. Mainly feeling prods here and there after eating or sitting forward hunched was best to feel movement for me in the evening. x

I would try and just be aware during the day but in a morning and night when your free just lay down and makesure you feel them for abit if nothing drink cold water and move position if still nothing then that's when I would just go get checked too makesure ! Xxxx

Where is your placenta meant to be? With both pregnancies I wasn't told/asked where they were?!

All positions are normal for a placenta. Most common is posterior which is at the back but I believe the placenta can be fundal or anterior all are normal and ok. You can also get low lying or placenta previa which are the ones you have to monitor but all are normal I guess. I think the placenta can shift upwards as the pregnancy progresses but mines been at the front since 12 weeks.
Anterior just muffles movements for some ladies as it's acting as a cushion infront of baby.
I also wasn't told. I just saw on my notes that it said anterior. Plus I hadn't felt much fro baby so it made sense x

Ahh right lol mine must be at the back somewhere then! Never have I known where my placentas have been lmao never thought to ask either! God I don't know much about these things! you'd never think I already have a child! I must have been oblivious the whole pregnancy haha How you feeling Gizzy? 3rd tri for you soon! ;) x

Haha I didn't know what it meant until I looked it up when I saw it on my notes lol!
I'm feeling good thanks how about you?
Yay not long for 3rd tri for me. I'm a little scared of the labour n stuff but I'm more excited than anything! x

Aww you'll be fine! I went into labour oblivious with my 1st, thank god really as it wasn't what I expected! I'm more anxious this time around as I'm PETRIFIED of pushing baby out naturally again, I have nightmares about it! I want to make sure I get an epidural, but EVERYONE I know whos had their second babys just didn't make it I ntime as they come so fast, its scaring me now!!!! I'm not to bad either, just achy lol! x

Hi,

Speaking from experience there is a massive difference in what you feel with an anterior vs a posterior placenta.

With my son it was anterior and I know now I only felt the really big movements and unfortunately I spent many a night lying in bed awake waiting for him to do something I could feel. He always did but it would take a while! I was so grateful to my Doppler.

With my daughter my placenta was posterior and I couldn't believe the difference - I felt everything from about 16 weeks and basically she never stopped moving. I used to wonder how people could say kicks were painful or had kept them awake when I was pregnant with my son but I realised hey must have had posterior placentas now as that is exactly what happened with her.

I didn't get constant movement with my son until I was 28-30 weeks.

I am really hoping I have a posterior placenta with this one as to be honest I think you're a bit cheated out of some of the 'kicking experience' with an anterior one.

Not sure if this helps!

xxx

mine was at front with second baby and i felt more movement than i did when it was at the back with the first so whole kick counting was never an issue. x

I had an anterior placenta with my first, my DS, who was active since week 18. I was able to get good movement and he was a little tap dancer! My husband was able to feel him outside my belly by this point.
With #2, expecting a girl, I ALSO have an anterior placenta with her and I didn't feel her til MUCH later, husband can't feel her from the outside and she's not as active.
I am guessing every baby is different. :)
