Probably the majority of you will think I am a fruit cake but there might be the odd mum who knows how I feel.

I am an emetophobe (phobia of sick) and have seen counsellors and even had accupuncture to try and combat my fear. One of my therapists even said that having a child might help me overcome the problem.

I am currently going through a separation from my partner of 5 years, which is emotional enough so you can imagine my horror when yesterday Lilly, my 19 month old, came down with a sick bug or upset stomach for the first time.

My initial reaction was panic! I didn't know what to do or how to react but I am proud to say I got through it. I am currently fretting that I will come down with it now and my stomach has had butterflies constantly for the last day or 2 but I am just so amazed that I have managed to deal with the situation on my own!

So like I said you will probably think I am bonkers but think of your worst nightmare or fear and then try and face up to it and you might get how I've felt.

Just had to share that :)

Kudos to you hun!

It's amazing when you can make progress in overcoming any fears :)

I have every sympathy with you, I myself suffer from the the same phobia. Well done to you! You sound like you have done fab with coping with it xx

I have the same and am terrified of the day when one of my kiddos comes down with a stomach bug. So glad you could handle it - I really doubt I could! When I was 8 I jumped out of a moving car in a blind panic to escape someone who was sick, so it's plagued me my entire life! xx

Well done, that's fantastic! I have the same phobia and last time my LO was sick I sat in my bedroom crying because I felt like a shit mum while my OH dealt with it - so I totally empathise, and you've done so well!

Well done you, Id be so full of fear and anxiety, especially knowiing there was no one there to help. Im also an emetephobe and after someone is sick near me Im on edge for about 3 days afterwards in case I get it. DS1 was sick just after christmas and he was crying for me afterwards I was so ashamed that I didnt want to hug him :( But I did, cleaned up all the sick and didnt get ill :) I think with this phobia, its is so much the THOUGHT of it than the reality. When I had to deal with it, I was surprised how well I managed.

Well done, hope you can continue to be strong in times like this :)

N.B-Without hijacking the thread-Have any of the therapies worked for you? Im currently considering CBT and hypnotherapy, just wondered if anyones got any success stories?

She was absolutely fine yesterday and today till 6.30 then she was ill again! It feels like the nightmare will never end!

I found CBT helpful but not as helpful as the acupuncture. That really helped. I too would like to know if anyone has tried hypnotherapy and whether it worked as I am by no means cured..one step at a time! X

Aw hun poor you :( Hope it stops soon If its any consolation, kids often get things that weve had an gained immunity to so you may not even be able to get it :)

How did the acupuncture help? Did u get cbt through the NHS?

I've got the same phobia, totally worried about my LO getting sick. My phobia is always worse in times of stress too.

well done, mama! just try to remember even if you do get it, it's nasty but you will be OK. plus i have read things that say emetophobes tend to vomit less times than other people. LOL

:hugs:

Yay you well done!!! *claps*

Also, I was always really scared when I was nauseous and when I was pregnant morning sickness made me cry, I was so frightened. My family thought I was being silly. I didn't know about emetophobia, very interesting.

Well done you, that's amazing! Phobias are scary things and it's incredble the progress it sounds like you have made :) I'm scared of dogs and desperate not to pass it onto my son and it certinaly focuses your mind! x
