Hello ladies

I am booked in for a c section on February 13th (first child).

The reason I am having a c section is because I have two large fibroids in the way of the birth canal, making a natural birth impossible. I am quite sad that I am unable to experience a natural birth.

What I am most worried about is the recovery. I hear that it is long and arduous. I am also planning on breastfeeding and hear it can take longer for milk to come in following a c section.

Ladies - it would make me feel much better hearing your positive c section stories, especially around recovery. How bad is it? How was the operation for you?

Thank you all very much in advance!! :hugs:

There's another thread related to your query, which I have found helpful -- it's SnowWhite's 'Just how bad is recovery after a c-section', currently on page 2 in third trimester. I can't answer your question as I am also scheduled for a first c-section in 4weeks....

best wishes

I have had two and I thought they were great! LOL....I know everyone thinks I am crazy. But seriously, I healed VERY quickly and the pain was not to bad. As long as you take your pain meds that first week you will be on the road to a quick recovery. I thought it was nice not having to go through hours and hours of labor!! I thought that was worse! LOL

Thank you ladies! This has made me feel much better!

I only have 3 weeks to go - I'm nervous and excited! :flower:

I had an emergency c section with my son, and I loved it! Afterwards I was a little sore, but I recovered very quickly because I kept moving. Once you stop moving and stay still, like for instance lying down, when you get up its painful. But if you keep active with little trips to the bathroom here and there, or find an excuse to walk around a little bit you will recover super quick! By the end of the week I was driving, and going to the store. My doctor wasn't too pleased.. but I felt great! Good luck and try not to worry too much!!

And I have a scheduled c section at 37 weeks, and I cant wait!! Super easy, the spinal wears off within an hour.. you'll be walking around by the next day. I would much rather take the easy way out with a c section then to go through labor! LOL

I recovered really fast from my emergency c-section with my daughter, as I was on morphine they didn't let me get up and about straight away (I was quite out of it), but once I could get out of bed and walk around I had no problems at all.

My milk also came in straight away, had no problems there. Also I was cleared for driving after 2 weeks, which was amazing as my daughter was still in hospital and having to catch buses to go see her was not cool.

It's not that bad. :) I have no long-term effects from my first (emergency) c-section and have my second scheduled for Feb 22.
My recovery was long and slow, but by my six week postpartum check-up, all was fine again. Just take your pain meds, follow all the dr's instructions, and enjoy not having to go through labor!

I had an elective c-section on the 20th of Dec - it was a great experience & honestly, recovery isn't that bad. All u need to do is hope for the best but prepare for the worst.
I got an infection after being discharged which required 10 days of antibiotics but it didn't really hinder my recovery.

U need to get out of bed as soon as u feel ready which for me was the next morning & by that time I didn't care about the pain, I just wanted to move! Make sure u ask for ur pain meds every 4 or 8 hours (depends on meds) regardless of whether u feel like u need them, once they wear off they need to re-enter ur system so best to be on the safe side & stay topped up at all times.
I had trapped wind the night I had my daughter which was really painful but I was given stronger meds to help & within a short timeframe I felt fine again - trapped wind made me feel as though my ribs were broken & I was short of breath.

Breast milk comes in normally - most women get it on day 3 & whilst I'm not feeding because of another issue mine was there on the third day!

All in all, I have experienced both natural labour & my c-section & i would pick a c-section a million times over - it really isn't that bad!!!

Good luck xx

All very true. The sooner you get up and walk, the faster you're going to recover. And the gas is pretty bad!! But walking will help with that, and also I had a rocking chair and that helped, too.

I had to have an emerg. c- section last month. I cried when the doctor came into my room and told me she felt a c-section was best. But thankfully everything went smooth. The procedure was quick. Recovery was not bad at all. The first day I stayed in bed, as they don't let you do much the first day but by day two I was up and walking around. Granted, it was slow walking but it was something. The doctor also recommended that I walk around the hosp. hallways which I did everyday I was there and I really think it helped. You can also take baby with you :) Also don't be afraid to ask for pain meds when you need it. I noticed that I took the pain meds around the same time everyday so I kept that same sched. when I went home. I was only on pain meds for about a week after being sent home. The pain can be tough sometimes but just let your nurses know and like I said don't be afraid to ask for pain meds when it is needed. I didn't have any gas issues. By day 3 in the hosp. i didn't pass any gas so the nurse gave me hot tea to drink and it worked!

Best of luck!! :)

Major thing , take the drugs !, I have had 2 c sections , have same prob as you. like the ladies said , they earlier you start moving around the better. Also keeping the stitches dry. In regards to milk , mine came about 4 hours or so after I gave birth . Good luck :)

I had an emergency c-section with ds and it was fine. I had a really good recovery. I was up and walking around 6am the next morning [had it at 8.30pm] and didn't take all the pain killers I was offered because I didn't feel like I needed them. I didn't breastfeed so not sure on the effects on that.

This time I am having an elective c-section and am keeping my fingers crossed that I have the same sort of experience.

Good luck :flower:
