I'm pretty convinced Parker has a tongue tie. I thought I spotted it when he was a couple days old, but my mom convinced me that he didn't (because he was feeding so well and his latch was so perfect), so I pushed it to the back of my head. But the other day I got my first good look at the bottom of his tongue, and it definitely looks tied to me (I Googled it to compare :haha:). I don't think its a severe one or anything though.

I'm just wondering - we've had no issues with feeding. His latch has always been perfect. He's making pleeeennnty of wet and dirty diapers, and he's outgrowing outfits faster than I can even enjoy them (not sure exactly how much he weighs). So I'm not concerned about how its going to impact breastfeeding, because if it was going to, I assume it already would have, right? His 8 week well-baby checkup is the first week of February and I'm going to have the doctor look at it then to confirm or deny if it exists, mostly just to satisfy my curiosity. But now I'm wondering ... since it doesn't seem to be impacting his ability to nurse efficiently, is there any reason I should need to think about having it cut? Do tongue-ties have any sort of effect on the child in other ways (i.e. moving on to solids, speech development, etc)?

Depending on the severity it can affect their speach and teeth. If it is mild and nO issues have arrisen so far it may well be left.
My LO had had severe tongue tie so had to have it snipped. My sister has it mildly and it's never caused issue apart from her being pretty lame at poking her tongue out at people and blowing raspberries! :haha: Her teeth and speach are fine.

My LO had a tongue tie and had the snip too. The doctor said they only ever do the snip if it's affecting breast feeding, but not for "cosmetic" reasons. Hope that helps x x

My LO has a tounge tie. Like you I was the one who spotted after we had some feeding issues. By the time a medical professional looked at it I had moved on to expressing into bottles as I couldn't cope with me and LO both not sleeping because he couldn't feed enough so his was never snipped.

We were told to watch his speech development carefully but no problems so far and it appears to be growing out like most do.

My 3 year old has very very severe tongue tie :(
He cant talk correctly,He never latched a bottle properly when he was younger.
He is under a SALT teacher at school ( speech and language therapist)
I didnt want it cut as he was a premmie and suffered enough with reflux apneoa and acid reflux.
Doctor has mentioned that he maybe grow out of it and with his SALT therapy may help alot.x

Nathan and Leo both had tounge ties. Leos was severe and needed cutting but Nathans wasn't severe although he did have the heart shaped tip and he fed fine and his speech is amazing for his age and he had no problem weaning. It has gone on its own now.

Thanks ladies! I didn't realize they could go away on their own. Since his isn't causing any problems with feeding, I'll probably just leave it alone then and watch for problems with his speech when that time comes.
