Now I know you're not supposed to take them apart, however, seeing as mine was positive- I was curious how it worked.
So I took it apart and googled.
The bottom strip:
The bottom strip indicates a positive or negative test- mine has a lovely blue line. It is a high sensitivity strip and will detect an early pregnancy.
The top strip:
The top strip has a much lower sensitivity. The bright blue line on the right hand side is the control line. Can you see a faint line just by my nail? That is the HCG line. It is faint because though I am pregnant, it only detects HCG relevant to a woman 2-3 weeks past ovulation (or 4-5 weeks pregnant).
So the top strip senses how far along you are.
Clever?
The low sensitivity strip must be extra faint for a 1-2 week pregnancy.
