i dont really like the idea of breast feeding but i really want to express milk for the baby instead of using formula how wud i go about this in hospital has anybody done it. im just thinking about bottles etc and sterilising what wud i have to take the hospital as i know i have to stay in a couple of days as im having a section

hospitals have breast pumps not sure what the circumstances have to be to use them they may try and encorage breast feeding as a bonding with the baby, but i would just ask your mid wife XXX

I'm wanting to breast feed and will be happy to do it in the hospital and at home. I'm unsure about in public and in front of people tho so I'm going to express! Things may change when he's here but for now I'm not keen on the idea of my boobies being on display, lol!
I think if your intending to breast feed they'll try and persuade you to breast feed the baby first before expressing. My friend informed me they can show you how to express yourself with your hand rather than a pump - reminded me of milking a cow to be honest, lol!

id suggest talking it over with your midwife, im sure she will be able to give you clear answers than me and help you come to some sort of arrangement reggarding pumps and steralizing materials whilst in hospital x x

Your milk won't come in until day 2 or 3, before that there's colostrum in tiny amounts, and its really good for baby--but not easy to express. I don't see that a pump will work much until after your true milk comes in.

Once your milk comes in, your supply will be based on demand, and babies are more efficient than breast pumps--so again BF is best until your supply is well established, otherwise you might dry up fairly fast before your body realizes you are expressing. It's not uncommon for women to BF and baby gets full--but when trying to express to only get an ounce or less from the pump.

i exclusively pumped for 5 months, and i eventually had to stop as my supply slowly dwindled to nothing.

i told my midwifes in my hospital what i wanted to do as we had latching issues and had tried breastfeeding, and they had no problem with it at all. they just let me use their steriliser just like any other bottle feeding mum. i had bought my own pump as i was planning on expressing for some bottle feeds anyways, so it worked out well.

i did find that the pump doesnt do as good as a job as baby would sucking though, and im sure this played a role in my supply very slowly dropping and i tried all sorts to get it back up.

good luck with whatever you choose to do xxx
