Hello to everyone, I am new on here I have just been reading some very use full tips for myself and my girlfriend.
I have a Question really, my girlfriend is 17 weeks pregnant can she use ibuprofen gel 5% on her back as she is getting very bad back pain?
On the box it says you can use it up to 6 months but i want to make sure first as we don't want to harm the baby in any way

I wouldn't use it personally. I know ibuprofen not safe in pregnancy and having it absorbed into your skin will still get into our blood steam like taking a tablet orally

I had been sufferring reaaaaaaally bad with my back during the first few weeks, my midwife told me to use heat pads. I really couldn't be bothered to go get some  so i used a wheatbag that we have, you warm it up in the micro (can put it in the freezer too) and then put that around my back, it worked wonders! Honestly best method ever! And they aren't all that expensive to buy either. Win both ways! lol

Hot water bottle also does wonders or even splash out on a pregnancy massage? xx

The doctor told me to avoid all painkillers except paracetamol unless they are given under doctor supervision and prescribed for something very specific. I have a bath or use a hot water bottle for my back ache but if I do need pain relief I just take a spoonfull of Calpol (I can't swallow paracetamol tablets for some reason). Also, pregnancy yoga classes might help as well. Yoga will strengthen the muscles which will stop them aching as much and give them a good stretch out which is sometimes needed as well. Sometimes the classes are free at antenatal clinics but if they aren't and you don't want to fork out for each session you can pick up a pregnancy yoga dvd for about 10 pounds. There are quite a few on the market and some are specifically aimed at people with no previous yoga experience so if she hasn't done yoga before then there is a workout to suit her needs. If she doesnt like the idea of yoga there is also aqua natal as well, basically any exercise will help so long as it is withing the limitations of pregnancy :)

Thank you very much for all your help this is all great info, i have looked in to Yoga class for her and we have 1 just 2 miles away so she will give it a go and the bath and the worming she will try anything, anything to help the pain
Thank you again everyone xxx

i have been told its a no no and that was from a gyne consultant .. sorry -- you have my sympathys as i am suffering too

Thank you for all your input we found out she had a water infection what was giving her pain

If it does carry on try acupunture its free on NHS for pregnant women in our area. It may help.
