My ds was born on 50th centile. Fast forward 15m and he is barely keeping on the 2nd centile. He was combi fed for a month then ff. He is under the paediatrician for low weight gain. He just isn't a massive eater. He has been on a high cal formula since January and that with lots of high cal foods is what is keeping him from being tube fed in the hospital. He has no medical issues causing this. All the gp, hvs and paediatric staff assumed he was a bf baby and were surprised he was ff.

I intend to bf no.2 due September but worried this baby will be the same and not gain enough weight :(

Makes sure you read the right charts there is one for breastfed baby and one for formula. Find a hv who isnt obsessed with weights. If your baby eats well, has wet nappies and poos and isnt ill you are fine. Maybe its not your baby but your ped.

Absolutely not - my first was born at 38 weeks, on 2nd percentile and fell right down to lowest. She was 6.9 at birth, 5.7 at 3 days old and by 14 weeks she was only 10lbs.

After the first two weeks she fed well but for some reason, didn't put on much weight. At 1 year old she was 16lbs and by 24 months was 17.5lbs!

Along came second baby at 41+2; 8.4 at birth, dropped to 7.12 then gained weight really well and has always been fairly high on percentile charts.

Now I have a 10 year old who fits 7-8/8-9 clothing and a 7 year old who fits 8-9 stuff. Each child is different, even if like me, they are fed the same method and weaned at same time etc. Both my kids are equally healthy and active, with the older (yet smaller) being a competitive gymnast.
