I know that there are many posts on here in regards to an incompetent cervix but I was just diagnosed on Friday and was wondering if anyone had any advise or recent stories that they can share. Here's my story... I went in for my routine 20 week ultrasound and they discovered that my cervix was shortened to 0.5 cm and dilated 2 cm. I was admitted to the hospital on bedrest awaiting to see a specialist that would be coming in on Monday. I had my appointment with the specialist and from Friday to Monday there was really no change to my cervix. They did tell me that I would not be able to have a cerclage since I was to far along and I have my membranes funneling through my cervix and I also have velamentous cord insertion. I was prescribed Progesterone suppositories and was discharged from the hospital on home bedrest. I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and what your outcome was. Our goal at this point is to at least make it to 24 weeks so that our little girl is viable. I will be 21 weeks tomorrow so hopefully we can make it at least 3 more weeks.

Welcome
firstly I'm sorry you're going through this
i was in similar position last year I went into preterm labour at 17+7 and at that scan i was dilated had funneling and bulging membranes the next day i was rushed for emergency cervical stitch. .
I had stitch put in at 18 weeks.
they were very high risk they would rupture my membranes and baby would not be saved but I had to risk it as I'd have had baby. .
i had stitch and progesterone injections and since 18 week stayed on bed rest luckily I had a baby son born at 36 weeks.
My stitch was taken out at 34 wk as i was in stages of early labour again. .

I hope bed rest works along with progesterone. I took a massive risk with the stitch cos either way I'd Lose him if not as labour had started. .It's ok me saying push for a stitch but same with bulging membranes it is such a difficult decision but like you said that 24 weeks is viable it's reaching that and trying not to go in labour but we cannot control our body.

There's mums on hear that will support you and share your experiences.
Please read the long post on hear that got me through bed rest and these mums gave me massive hope and as upset and scared you are they'll try comfort you. .

stay strong xx

Just wanted to share my experience. I went in to ptl at 20 weeks. I was diagnosed with short cervix mine was 0.7cm initially and in hospital for a week at 20 weeks. I was also started on progesterone suppositories and had a cervical pessary put in as I was not a candidate for cerclage. I also had contractions and was started on meds for that. My cervix lengthened to 1.2cm and I was sent home for strict bedrest. At 25w3d contractions started again and because of a partial placental abruption had to have an emcs at 25w5d. My baby girl is in the nicu but I made it almost 6 weeks after my first ptl scare!

Obviously having a 25 weeker isn't ideal and is scary but she's here. She made it! I have more details in my journal (link below) and feel free to ask any questions. I wish you the best!
