Hi all, I'm after some advice & Gaviscon.

My DS has been diagnosed with a cow's milk protein allergy & has been prescribed nutramigen LGG 1. He is also suffering with reflux, so we've been advised to give gaviscon as well. We tried to put it in his formula & it thickened too much that it didn't come out of the teats very well, so we're having to prepare it in water (5ml + gavison & mix into a paste, + 10ml water). Is there an easy way to do this? It says I have to use cooled boiled water & have to be prepared immediately before giving it to him..

The plan atm is to pour some boiled water into a flask, let it cool for 30 mins or so, then syringe the water out into the bottle to make the paste etc. But it seems so long winded! Am I overthinking this?

And also, do I need to sterilise the syringe every time I use it? Going out and about is going to be an absolute nightmare. He's so unsettled after a feed anyway that I just dont want to leave the house without my husband

Could you try the next size of teat? We used the variflow ones with our son when he had gaviscon. Its much easier than faffing about trying to mix it and syringe it. Esp of out and about x

I'd love to use variflow, but they're not available with the dr brown's bottles :( We tried stage 2 teats & it still seemed too thick.. I guess next step is stage 3. What a nuisance!

My guy never got on with gaviscon, it constipated him horribly

Instead with thicken his milk (also Nutramigen) with carobel, this has stopped his reflux symptoms

You can buy it over the counter at any chemist but they might have to order it in

My friend has to use stage 3 with Dr browns for her son. He had 2 sachets of gaviscon each feed so needed stage 3 x
