Infertility- the elephant in the room

I hate that.

My friend calls me on the phone and asks with a very hopeful voice, "What's new with you?"
Then I have to struggle to come up with something or respond, "Not much."


It's so obvious that she doesn't want to ask if I'm pregnant, but she clearly is hopeful that I am. I don't want to burden her with my feelings, so I don't open up. She doesn't want to pry, so she doesn't ask.

So, we say really say nothing, but an entire conversation has occured.

How would you feel if you told her? Why haven't you told her?

I have told quite a few and family know. I do wish I hadn't mentioned it to a couple of friends though as they keep asking if I'm ok- I want to tell them to bugger off. Almost as though they are enjoying the drama

No, she knows, I have told her. We just don't talk about it every time we chat on the phone. Mostly, when we go out to dinner and have a chance to have a lengthly conversation.
Also, I know it makes her uncomfortable b/c she has 5 kids. I'm not sure why it makes her feel weird, I have 3, lol.
